Key Takeaways

  • A Destiny 2 player creatively brought Final Fantasy 9’s Vivi into the game for Halloween.
  • Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost 2024 event features Halloween-themed activities.
  • Vivi from Final Fantasy 9 remains a beloved character from the franchise.

A Destiny 2 player recently brought the fan-favorite Final Fantasy 9 mage Vivi Ornitier into the game for the Festival of the Lost event. Every year around Halloween, Destiny 2 players gather at the Tower to celebrate Eva Levante’s return by collecting candy and unlocking special items in festive quests. In true Halloween fashion, players sometimes dress their avatars up in costumes while participating in the Festival of the Lost, and the connected quests require them to equip a special mask provided by Eva.

Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost 2024 event started on October 29 and will run until November 19. During the short time that this year’s Festival has been underway, talented players have gotten into the Halloween spirit by customizing their in-game characters to look like It’s demonic clown Pennywise, a “Runner” from Marathon, and even a PlayStation Move controller among the many gaming and pop culture characters.

A Destiny 2 player shares a nostalgic Hunter design that catches the community’s attention, highlighting the game’s customization possibilities.

A Reddit user by the handle of Actual_Life_303 recently joined in on the costumed fun by theming their Destiny 2 Titan after Vivi from Final Fantasy 9 and sharing their creation on r/DestinyFashion. While this version of the diminutive Black Mage is taller and more armor-like than the actual Vivi, Actual_Life_303’s rendition retains his signature look through a pointy wizard’s hat, a mask that closely resembles Vivi’s Jawa-like face, and a blue and grey outfit. As some in the comment section have pointed out, Destiny 2 doesn’t have a staff weapon that matches Vivi’s default Mage Staff, meaning that Actual_Life_303 had to give their version a gun instead.

Final Fantasy 9’s Vivi Brings the Tricks and Treats in Destiny 2

Vivi has been a popular character among Final Fantasy fans ever since he first appeared in 2000’s Final Fantasy 9, endearing gamers with his cute design, powerful Black Mage abilities, and tragic storyline that deals with issues like mortality and identity. Vivi would later appear as a supporting character in numerous Final Fantasy spin-offs, as well as other Square Enix franchises like Kingdom Hearts and Itadaki Street.

There have been rumors of Final Fantasy 9 receiving a remake in the style of the successful Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, but Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida recently denied these claims, citing what a huge undertaking such a project would be. However, Final Fantasy 14 just had a collaboration with FF9, and the latter remains one of the most beloved entries in the series – as evidenced by key characters like Vivi being used as the inspiration for Destiny 2 players during the Halloween season.
