Valorant is one of the most popular tactical shooters out there because it’s so different from the competition. Each playable character in the game, known as an agent, has their own unique set of abilities that can be used to give their team an advantage.
Valorant has some incredible characters that each have their own specific role to play, but the sentinels are an important part of any team. Sentinel Agents are focused on defensive play with an emphasis on supporting their team through intel, anchoring bomb sites, and preventing enemy flanks. These are all the Sentinel Agents in Valorant, ranked from least effective to most effective.
Updated October 31, 2024 by Maria Antiporda: This list has been updated to include the newly released Sentinels and to take into account recent nerfs, buffs, and other changes to the game.

Sage
Though Sage’s healing and resurrection abilities can be very useful to the team, as a Sentinel, her kit is limited. She has no utility for watching the flank, and her slowing abilities are only active for a few seconds. Enemies can simply wait for a Slow Orb to dissipate or shoot down her wall to clear a path.
All these things make Sage a weak agent when it comes to the Sentinel’s duties, but she can be paired with another Sentinel to give the team an extra line of defense.
Basic Abilities: Barrier Orb and Slow Orb |
|
---|---|
Signature Ability: Healing Orb |
Heal yourself or a teammate. |
Ultimate: Resurrection |
Resurrect a dead ally and restore their health completely. |
5
Deadlock
Deadlock can also wall off paths, but it is see-through. That said, enemies will need to use a lot of bullets just to destroy it. Her flank-watching abilities are also useful, but other Sentinels work better since enemies can quietly cross past hers.
Her ultimate is great for clearing an area and possibly capturing an enemy, but it’s not a sure kill since they can be rescued. Like Sage, Deadlock can work well when paired with another Sentinel to beef up the team’s defense.
Basic Abilities: Gravnet and Sonic Sensor |
|
---|---|
Signature Ability: Barrier Mesh |
Throw a disc that generates a wall in the shape of a cross, blocking the path from movement. |
Ultimate: Annihilation |
Shoot a Nanowire Accelerator that traps any enemy that gets caught by it. The trap can be shot down to rescue the victim, but if they reach the end of the wire, they perish. |
4
Vyse
Vyse has a decent kit for preventing enemies from flooding into a site. Her wall that comes up when an enemy trips is useful for isolating a careless foe. Her ultimate is also powerful for taking or re-taking an area because it forces the enemies to use weaker weapons.
That said, other Sentinels have similar abilities that provide more impact. Killjoy’s ultimate also targets enemies within a large range, but hers is better because it completely detains them. Other agents can also offer better blinds, making Vyse’s quite redundant.
Basic Abilities: Razorvine and Shear |
|
---|---|
Signature Ability: Arc Rose |
Place an Arc Rose on a surface. When activated, all players that see it will be blinded. |
Ultimate: Steel Garden |
Cover an area with thorns that jam the primary weapons of all enemies caught in it for a few seconds. |
3
Chamber
Chamber is a unique Sentinel because his kit allows him to watch the team’s flank, deal damage, and teleport to better positions. His stopping power is less powerful compared to other Sentinels, and it’ll require decent aim for him to make an impact.
If the team needs a sniper to hold long positions, Chamber works great because of his ultimate and his quick teleport ability. If the enemies are careful, however, and peek Chamber at the same time, it may be difficult to get the needed kill.
Basic Abilities: Trademark and Headhunter |
|
---|---|
Signature Ability: Rendezvous |
Place a teleport anchor on a surface. You can teleport swiftly to the anchor’s location while within its range. This can also be picked up and relocated. |
Ultimate: Tour De Force |
Equip a powerful sniper rifle that kills enemies hit anywhere on the upper body. The area where the killed enemy was standing will have a field that slows caught players for a few seconds. |
2
Killjoy
Killjoy is an excellent Sentinel when you need an agent that can delay pushes and watch the team’s flank. Her turret has the range to see across long distances and her alarmbot not only activates upon contact with the enemy, it also applies Vulnerable on them.
Her mollies can also damage or kill careless enemies. Her ultimate is also one of the most powerful ones in the game, affecting a large area and detaining any enemies caught within its range. The only thing keeping her from taking the top spot is that many of her utilities deactivate when she is out of range.
Basic Abilities: Nanoswarm and Alarmbot |
|
---|---|
Signature Ability: Turret |
Place a turret down that fires at enemies when they are spotted. |
Ultimate: Lockdown |
Place down a Lockdown device that charges up, then detains all enemies within its range when it is activated. |
1
Cypher
With the rise of aggressive playstyles and agents, Cypher is definitely the best Sentinel for many reasons. His Trapwire can remain undetected unless an enemy is close to it, giving them a false sense of security if they decide to flood into a site. It also stays active unless destroyed by the enemy, meaning it can trip enemies over and over again.
His cage does not only block vision, but signals when an enemy crosses. His camera also allows him to watch an area for any activity while he is safely tucked behind a corner. His ultimate is also incredibly powerful, pinpointing the location of each enemy on the map. When it comes to unraveling the enemy’s plans and stopping their movement, Cypher is king.
Basic Abilities: Trapwire and Cyber Cage |
|
---|---|
Signature Ability: Spycam |
Place a camera that can be activated from anywhere on the map. When activated, you will be able to monitor whatever the camera’s vision can pick up. You can also shoot a dart at an enemy you see on the camera to reveal their location until the dart is removed. |
Ultimate: Neural Theft |
Use an enemy’s corpse to download the current locations of each member of the enemy team. |
