Dragon Age: The Veilguard brings together various companions of different backgrounds, races, and more under the leadership of protagonist Rook. Like most RPGs, you only start with a small number of companions at your side at the beginning, but the game sets the stage for a need to recruit more. However, when playing through the game’s lengthy first Act, you might find yourself wondering how to recruit all companions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard and when you will get to add them all to your party.
It takes time to recruit every single companion in Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s main story quests, which may vary depending on your chosen difficulty and how much you explore each location. Each companion is romanceable and brings something unique to the table, whether that’s a specific ability, companion questlines, and beyond. Fortunately, you should have all the companions towards the end of Act 1, with different quests to complete to get each one.

How To Recruit All Companions In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
There are seven romanceable companions to recruit in Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s main story, as detailed below:
How To Recruit Lace Harding
Lace Harding is the first companion you recruit shortly after meeting Varric in Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s opening main story quest, The End of the Beginning. While searching for Solas through the streets of Minrathous, Harding readily joins your party as your first point of contact and helps you reach Neve at Dumat Plaza. Although Harding is the only dwarf in Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s companions, she can be one of the most beneficial ones to have in your party as a scout who is highly skilled with a bow.
- Once recruited, Harding’s room is in the Conservatory at the Lighthouse.
How To Recruit Neve Gallus
The End of the Beginning quest also introduces Neve Gallus to your party. After defeating the Venatori in the Dumat Plaza, you recruit Neve, a private detective and an ice mage with the Shadow Dragons. Neve is crucial in helping you reach Solas and belongs to one of the game’s first main choice decisions in the opening mission: should you pick Harding or Neve?
- Once recruited and back at the Lighthouse, you can find Neve in the Study.
How To Recruit Bellara Lutare
You recruit Bellara the Veil Jumper near the start of In Entropy’s Grasp, the third main story quest in the game. Bellara joins your party at the beginning of this quest, shortly after you enter the Elven Ruins in the Arlathan Forest. Bellara is an Elven Mage fascinated with the secrets of ancient Elvhenan and who is also a bit of a fixer or tinkerer when it comes to magic.
- In the Lighthouse, Bellara’s quarters are located in The Workshop.
How To Recruit Lucanis Dellamorte
If you’re eager to get the Antivan Crow and mage-killer Lucanis Dellamorte on your side, you recruit him to your party in Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s Sea of Blood main story quest. After meeting with the Antivan Crows in Treviso, you strike a deal with them to rescue Lucanis in exchange for his help. Also known as the Demon of Vyrantium, Lucanis has unfortunately been captured by the Venatori. In Sea of Blood, you must venture deep into Venatori’s underwater prison named The Ossuary. After you free Lucanis from his cell, he joins your party immediately. However, you must help him with some tasks before returning to the Lighthouse, including destroying a vial of his blood and defeating Calivan.
- Once you recruit Lucanis, he moves into a room inside the Dining Hall building in the Lighthouse.

How To Recruit Davrin
To recruit the Grey Warden Davrin, you start the main story quest called A Warden’s Best Friend. Davrin joins your party towards the beginning of this quest and comes with his adopted Griffon, Assan. You can call on Assan to create paths ahead using the Ability Wheel.
- After you complete A Warden’s Best Friend, Davrin moves into the Lighthouse shortly after the save Minathrous or Treviso decision, and you can find him in the Guesthouse building next to the Dining Hall.
How To Recruit Emmrich Volkarin
If you’re curious about Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s Mourn Watcher companion Emmrich Volkarin, you get to recruit him during the main story quest called Where the Dead Must Go. You can access this quest after completing the On Deadly Wings quest, after which the Where the Dead Must Go and The Dragon Slayer main story quests become available. Where the Dead Must Go takes you to the Grand Necropolis, where you first encounter Emmrich in the Lost Watcher’s Wing area, where he joins your party.
- When back at the Lighthouse, Emmrich and his skeletal assistant Manfred reside in a room on the second floor of the main Library building.
How To Recruit Taash
If you went to the Necropolis first to recruit Emmrich, Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s seventh recruitable companion is the Qunari Dragon Slayer Taash, who you can recruit in the aptly named The Dragon Slayer main story quest. Taash is allied with the Lords of Fortune faction and is a warrior who’s all about adventure. The Dragon Slayer quest takes you to the Rivain Coast, where Taash joins your party at the start of this quest and helps defend a dragon.
