Controversial Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 X-Ray Vision Perk Is In Treyarch's Crosshairs

A controversial ability in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is in the firing line, as Treyarch has confirmed that it’s looking at nerfing the Recon three-perk bonus in the game. This perk allows players to see opposing players through walls for a brief period after they respawn and leaves no death skulls after successfully eliminating an enemy, provided they have the Vigilance, Engineer, and Ghost perks equipped.

FaZe’s Swagg brought the issue to light on X/Twitter, to which associate director Matt Scronce offered a succinct one-word reply:

Black Ops 6 features a tighter map design in multiplayer that helps to emphasize the new Omni-movement system of this year’s Call of Duty game, and with smaller arenas, the Recon-three perk provides a significant advantage to players who take advantage of it.

On social media platforms, numerous players were complaining about just how challenging it was to build up any momentum with seemingly clairvoyant opponents running around maps–fan-favorite map Nuketown has been seen as a prime example of this–making for a frustrating experience overall. However, players who discovered that flashbanging teammates to earn easy XP might also be compounding these issues.

Out now on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has had an especially good launch through Xbox Game Pass. Analysts looked at the data from the Call of Duty HQ app–which includes several other Call of Duty games–and found that 52% of active Xbox Series X|S users and 34% of active PS5 players dove into the game when it went live, leading to a “bonkers” day on Xbox consoles alone.

Looking ahead, players can prepare for Black Ops 6 Season 1 on November 14 and the debut of Call of Duty: Warzone’s newest map, Area 99.
