The first few weeks of every Call of Duty game are filled with an ever-changing meta. The best guns, perks, and loadouts shift as things are nerfed and buffed, eventually leveling out as things, in theory, become more balanced. Black Ops 6 is no stranger to this, as one perk has already proved so overpowered and unfair that Treyarch is about to bring it back down to Earth. I’m of course talking about Recon, a brand new perk that essentially gives you brief wallhacks every time you respawn.
Recon is one of Black Ops 6’s new combat specialty perks. You unlock these by equipping your loadout with three perks of the same color, which gives you the combat specialty as a bonus. If you equip three blue perks in the FPS game, you get Recon, which helps you see enemies through walls.
If that sounds incredibly overpowered, that’s because it is. Treyarch has given players official, albeit brief, wallhacks as a mechanic. With Recon, you can see your enemies through barriers for a short time after you respawn, a HUD edge indicator flashes for enemies outside your view, and you leave no death skulls when killing an enemy.
As you can imagine, giving you the ability to see enemy silhouettes after every respawn makes it easy to dominate matches, even if you need to go for specific perks to do it. The good news, then, is that Recon is about to be nerfed. Kris ‘FaZe Swagg’ Lamberson asked Treyarch to nerf Recon on Twitter/X, and the team is obliging. Treyarch associate design director Matt Scronce replied to Lamberson with a simple “incoming.”
We don’t know exactly what the Recon nerf looks like yet, but it’s better than nothing. Perhaps Recon will last for a shorter amount of time, only work for a few respawns in a match, or show you fewer enemies. With many Black Ops 6 maps small in scale, it’s incredibly easy to respawn and use Recon to one-shot an opponent before they even know what hit them. It’s completely unfair and incredibly unbalanced, so I’m glad Treyarch is taking action.
In even better news, you’ve got an extra day of Black Ops 6 double XP. After a glitch occasionally limited the 2XP payout for some players over the weekend, Treyarch decided to extend the event. That means you can get double XP, weapon XP, and Gobblegum earn rates for an extra 24 hours.
While we wait for Treyarch to bring in the Recon nerf we’ve put together the best Black Ops 6 loadouts to help you in the multiplayer, alongside a breakdown of each Black Ops 6 gun.
