The 15 Best Non-Legendary Pokemon With Alternate Forms
It isn’t just Legendaries that have different forms. A ton of ordinary Pokemon have great ones, too.
That’s great and all, but sometimes you get a little extra oomph when that alternate form is, well, a bit odd. Something you didn’t quite expect. Rotom – Electrical Appliances

- Publisher(s)

Nintendo
, The Pokemon Company
You could spend days going through Pokemon talking about the various intricacies of alternate forms, how they change with the weather, time of day, battle conditions, and so on. And then you could look at Rotom, a sentient bolt of electricity, and decide it can be whatever it wants.
Obviously taking a washing machine into battle is funny enough, but it’s where Rotom started that makes it more surreal. Hidden in a haunted mansion filled with ghosts and staring machines is this sentient orb of energy. Except it turns into a hair dryer.

Final Fantasy Protagonists – Frogs
Final Fantasy 15
- Released
-
November 9, 2016
The greatest asset the Final Fantasy series has is its willingness to change genre entirely from game to game. You can never really except what will return aside from a handful of core features and themes. Frogs just so happen to be one such feature.
While it’s typically seen as a status effect, who can really say being turned into a frog is such a bad thing? Sure, you can’t use all your special moves, and you’re a lot weaker, but you also get whole new moves sometimes! In Final Fantasy 7 Remake, everyone even has a unique frog form!

Morgana – A Car, A Cat, And A Human
Persona 5 Royal
While Atlus may now be enjoying great fame from the success of their latest games, it’s unlikely they will every create a cultural cornerstone like Persona 5 ever again. Maybe that’s for the best though because does anyone else really need a cat hounding you to sleep every night?
Morgana is many things. He is a regular housecat. He is also an anthropomorphic cat in Mementos. And a car, since he just can be. And then there is the most bizarre scenario of all – when he turns into an actual human and sleeps in your bed.

Vincent Valentine – Horror Movie Killers
- Released
-
January 31, 1997
Ah, back to Final Fantasy. We’re specifically honing in on Final Fantasy 7 this time with everyone’s favourite edgelord, Vincent Valentine. Styled as a vampire and every miserable due to his unrequited lover’s demise, Vincent also has some demons hiding inside. Some very specific ones.
For reasons undiscernble, Vincent’s Limit Breaks allow him to take on various different forms. Two of these are Death Gigas and Hellmasker which, well, are just Frankenstein’s Monster and an amalgamation of Leatherface and Jason Voorhees. Safe to say they won’t be returning in the Remake project.
4
Heather Mason – Magical Girl
The Silent Hill series is often characterised by the storytelling of Silent Hill 2, with an incredibly deep focus on the psychological aspects. Silent Hill 1 and 3 are more focused on occultism, though the latter also allows Heather to unabashedly exist as a teenage girl, abrasive attitude and contemporary fashion sense included.
It digs into the insecurities and fantasies of being a teenage girl, and what is a greater desire than wanting to become a magical girl. Well, for some reason, Heather can do just that. Princess Heart is her alter ego, transformation sequence and all.

Agent 47 – Anyone
Hitman World of Assassination
- Released
-
January 26, 2023
When you need to be inconspicuous, you need to be no one in particular so you can be anyone at all. That’s the name of the game for Agent 47, and one he succeeds at with incredible tact. That bald head and blank expression of his is a canvas to become whosoever he desires.

Sonic – The Werehog

Sonic Team
Since his debut back in 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog has become a cultural icon like few others. This has lent itself to creating a seemingly endless stream of games, from traditional platformers to fan-made visual novels. And in those many games, Sonic has picked up many forms.
Though of course, none can match the sheer brilliance of the Werehog. From a name that would imply a pig more than a hedgehog to the stretchy, disproportionate arms, the Werehog is a gorgeous symbol of what Sonic can be. Move over Shadow, because the Werehog deserves its own edgy return.

Kirby – Anything

HAL Laboratory

Nintendo
aKirby is adorable, isn’t he? But what he actually is, well that’s more of a mystery. More accurate would perhaps be to question what Kirby isn’t, as that has multitudes less possibilities. Kirby can consume anything, and Kirby can then become anything. So in a sense, Kirby is everything.
There seems to be limits, to a degree. In Smash, Kirby can consume everyone to gain an aspect of them, yet seems to struggle to fully maintain the form of a car in the Forgotten Land. While it may seem funny at first glance, it’s actually quite unsettling. Kirby could be anything, anyone. Kirby could even be you.
