The Veilguard Opens To Huge Player Figures On Steam

Key Takeaways

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard has hit over 85,000 concurrent players on Steam.
  • This is after bringing in more than 84,000 players at once yesterday, indicating that this has been a successful launch weekend for BioWare.
  • We’re still waiting on console figures, but Dragon Age: The Veilguard is also high on the PS5 sales charts.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has smashed past 85,000 concurrent players on Steam in its opening weekend. This beats its previous concurrent player record of more than 84,000, which was set yesterday, and rounds off a successful launch week for BioWare‘s comeback RPG.

Of course, concurrent players only count those all playing at the same time, and even then, it’s only whoever owns it on PC. Right now, we can’t tell how many have played Dragon Age: The Veilguard in total, but this suggests that things are going well – and certainly far better than BioWare’s most recent releases before this.

This figure makes Dragon Age: The Veilguard one of the most-played single-player games on Steam right now, which isn’t bad for an RPG that feels more geared towards console players. We can’t see concurrent players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, which are the other platforms The Veilguard can be picked up on.

However, even before launch, The Veilguard was topping the best sellers list on PS5, so it’s likely performing well on that platform too. Right now, the PlayStation website shows it in fourth place, just behind NBA 2K25, Fortnite, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

A lot was riding on The Veilguard being a hit for BioWare. While the previous game in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition, sold incredibly well, the studio has struggled since. Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem were flops, and a fourth Dragon Age game languished in development hell for years, at one point envisioned as a live service. This was scrapped a few years ago, with development rebooted so the long-awaited sequel could instead stick with the series’ single-player roots.

Despite this apparent success, we might not get much more Dragon Age for some time. BioWare recently confirmed that The Veilguard isn’t getting any DLC, as the studio’s focus now shifts to the next Mass Effect game.
