The Veilguard Lets You Redo Difficult Decisions

The Veilguard Lets You Redo Difficult Decisions

Key Takeaways

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard makes temporary autosaves before major decisions.
  • This makes it a dream for save scummers – or anyone who’s really indecisive when it comes to making decisions in RPGs.
  • On top of this, you get 100 save files per character.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, like other BioWare games, involves making a bunch of decisions throughout the story. These can vary in significance and consequence, and you might not always be very confident in your decision-making – something that the game accounts for.

As you may have noticed during your playthroughs, Dragon Age: The Veilguard makes a temporary autosave for most decisions you make in the game. This makes it very easy to go back and see what happens if you do something else, giving you plenty of time to change your mind if you’re stuck on a particular moral quandary.

These saves won’t take up the 100 save files that you’re allotted per character, and as the name suggests, they are temporary. However, they certainly come in handy when you’re hit with a major choice before you get the chance to make a manual save yourself.

Without getting into specific spoilers, this will come in especially handy during one of the first major decisions of the game, since this is thrown at you with very little time to think about it. I almost immediately regretted my choice, and I imagine a fair amount of others will too.

While that’s definitely a generous feature, there is another quirk to how save files work in The Veilguard which isn’t very popular at all. For some reason, players are limited to making just three Rooks per login on console. This is the first time a Dragon Age game has put a specific limit on the amount of characters you can make. If you want to make more, you’ll either have to delete a campaign (which for many of us is simply unthinkable) or make a new login.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out now, available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC/.
