Severance is undoubtedly one of the best sci-fi shows currently on Apple TV+, with the popular thriller finally making its return for season two. As well as many of season one’s key cast characters coming back for more, one of Severance‘s strangest features, the office party, seems to be on the horizon for its Lumon Industries employees this time around, too. Premiering in 2022, Severance became a massive hit, earning itself a score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as receiving 14 nominations at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller, Severance tells the story of a group of workers who partake in a medical procedure by Lumon Industries called “severance” in a bid to separate their non-work memories from their work memories. Although viewers get an insight into how this affects other employees, for instance, Helly Riggs (Britt Lower) and Irving Bailiff (John Turturro), the main plot focus is on Mark Scout (Adam Scott), a former history professor whose “outie” is grieving the death of his wife. Even though it’s been three years since the series ended its first season with a heartpounding cliffhanger, as well as facing season two delays due to conflict between Severance showrunners, the smash-hit series is, at last, making its return on January 17, 2025.

Severance Season Two Could See the Office Parties Make a Comeback
In the Severance season two trailer, Mark can be seen running around the hallways of Lumon Industries in a confused state after getting off the elevator, likely due to the reality that his wife is actually still alive. Helly can also be seen in the trailer, but its unclear whether this is just a throwback to season one’s finale of that terrifying stage scene. One of the most interesting aspects of the trailer, though, is witnessing Milchick, a supervisor on the severed floor, greeting Mark as he enters the office with a bunch of blue balloons. This specific scene could indicate that his infamous and completely weird office parties will be returning in season two.
For those who need a refresher, Severance season one‘s office parties were held by Milchick, a chameleon and loyal through and through to Lumon, in a bid to boost morale for employees who did great work for the company. These weren’t the typical “normal” office parties though, that included nice chats with co-workers and a variety of tasty foods, but rather a strange gettogether that served a more sinister purpose by intimidating staff. Coupled with bizarre and awkward jazz dancing and an odd selection of foods that served up melon balls, deviled eggs, and waffles, Milchick’s office parties provided an insight into how corrupt and disturbing Lumon Industries really are.
Season two’s first episode is just months away, as many fans of the show can’t wait to see what happens next, but already, season three of Severance has been mapped out. Severance co-executive producer Mohamad El Masri said “Even in Season 2, we were talking about, what is the end game, and how does this show end?”, adding that “there was work being done on Season 3 while they were still shooting Season 2.”
