G2 stomp Spirit to win BLAST World Final 2024

G2 have emerged victorious over Team Spirit to win the last-ever iteration of the BLAST World Final. NiKo, m0NESY, and co. have secured their third trophy of the year with the BLAST World Final 2024, ensuring they finish the year strong with an eye on the upcoming Shanghai Major.

But how did G2 actually secure the silverware here? Let’s take a look at all the action from the server in Singapore.

We’d love to say we saw a competitive Grand Final at the BLAST World Final 2024, but the truth is, it wasn’t. This was a G2 stomp onto Team Spirit, plain and simple. Mirage, Anubis, and Dust2 – Spirit never once looked like taking a map here, with chopper being well and truly outcalled by Snax in an emphatic 3:0 victory.

This matchup was the perfect example of G2’s individual brilliance that can activate at any time. We saw more monstrous flicks from m0NESY, whose consistency will surely see him crowned the best CS2 player in the world. Snax actually went positive for the first time in over 30 maps. Both NiKo and malbsMd were constant thorns in the side of Spirit. Then there’s huNter-, who felt the final map of Dust2 was the perfect time to drop 27 kills to take G2 over the line.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. While G2’s lows (see IEM Rio) are really low, the highs are just so much higher. When this team is firing on all cylinders, it’s a joy to behold. Now, attention for the team turns to the Shanghai Major, where NiKo will be gunning to finally get his Major in what will presumably be his final tournament in a G2 jersey.

Spirit fall apart on the T-side

Here’s a completely real stat-line for you. G2 had as many map wins in this series as Spirit had T-side round wins. Three. That’s all Spirit could muster on the T-side, with all of them coming on the final map. It’s just completely untenable if you want to win a game of Counter-Strike. Spirit are a team that usually fare well on the T-side, especially with a player like donk on the roster, so it was a surprise to see them totally neutered in this way here.

If there’s any consolation for Spirit to take from this CS2 tournament, they now have one clear area for improvement before the Shanghai Major. T-sides like that can’t win you events, especially in the Grand Final. It’s fascinating how they just can’t seem to beat G2. Right now, from their last 12 maps against one another, G2 have won 11. That’s something Spirit need to get over, and fast.
