Dragon Age: The Veilguard – How To Permanently Increase Rook’s Stats

The main character from Dragon Age: The Veilguard is none other than Rook, a mysterious individual who has been recruited by Varric (alongside Scout Harding and Neve Gallus) to stop Solas on his tracks. The protagonist of the story has many important features, one of which is their capacity to permanently increase certain stats by obtaining special items and completing certain puzzles.

In this guide, we will cover all the ways to permanently increase Rook’s stats, from their Health bar to additional skill points that players can collect throughout the world. Here’s how to unleash Rook’s full potential and destroy every enemy that stands in your way.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Review

After 100 hours and 3 playthroughs of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, I feel justified in my ten-year wait and satisfied by the results.

How To Increase Rook’s Health Bar

There are two ways to increase Rook’s total HP. One method requires players to find Evanuris altars, which are spread across the world. Once players have recovered the Lyrium Knife, they’ll be able to interact with these statues and solve a small puzzle.

  1. Interact with the Evanuris altars, and pay attention to the beams that come out of them.
  2. Each beam leads to a prism.
  3. Destroy each of the four prisms to receive the reward.

Each statue completed will boost Rook’s health by 100, and there are a lot of statues spread across the entire game. Pay attention to the sound cue and look in the upper right corner of the screen, below the mini-map. A small icon will pop up there each time players are near treasure or altars.

How To Permanently Boost Rook’s Stats

While shopping through the world of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, players will come across certain Valuable Items, most of which are sold at the Faction Vendors for Gold and Reputation. But some of these Valuable Items will provide an immediate boost to Rook’s stats once acquired. They can be purchased from some street vendors in Treviso, Minrathous, and Dock Town.

Each of these Stall Vendors is spread across the cities and holds a special type of item (Wine, Fruit, Cheese) that Rook will “consume” once purchased. Some of these items will give a permanent +25 boost to Health, while others will grant a permanent +1% to the total damage caused by the player character.

Which Faction Did You Choose In Your First Dragon Age: The Veilguard Playthrough?

It took me a while to figure out which faction I wanted to associate with, there’s quite a bit to consider before you even get to the backstory of your character. I went with a human Rogue for my first playthrough, and was weighing up my options between Lords of Fortune and Antivan Crows. I ended up going with the Lords of Fortune, hopefully some of that fortune transfers to my real-life bank account!

Make sure to check all the Stalls in each of the Main Cities, as several vendors can sell the same items, but these will be available only once. Additionally, some areas get locked at some point during the adventure, thus making it impossible to purchase these Valuable Items.

How To Get More Skill Points For Rook

Besides the usual 1 point granted when leveling up your character, Rook can also gain additional Skill Points to distribute through the enormous Skill Tree each class has. These are obtained by finding Fen’Harel statues (or altars) spread across all the maps.

Once you locate one, to gain an extra skill point,do the following:

  1. Approach the glowing statue and activate it with the main interaction button.
  2. Wait until the statue moves, then follow the direction where the statue points.
  3. Pay attention to the howling sound. By following it, players will stumble upon a wolf spirit.
  4. Approach it to receive a Fen’Harel Statue, which grants 1 additional Skill point.

Remember that in each map, there will be plenty of these altars to discover. Make sure to pay attention to the “treasure detection” feature of the minimap to find them all.
