No matter the genre, each anime tells a unique story, and each series varies in terms of writing quality, but like all works of fiction, the characters matter the most. The audience relates to characters, and a series that does not have relatable characters is in most cases doomed to fail.

Bleach
- Release Date
- October 5, 2004
- Studio
- Pierrot
- Based On
- Manga
- Creator
- Tite Kubo

Many Bleach fans believe that the series should’ve ended with Aizen being the final villain, and with good reason. He was the main villain for the majority of the series, and he proved time and time again to be a genius and master manipulator. He also possesses abilities that are otherwordly in terms of strength.
Aizen’s power was complete hypnosis, as his sword release allowed him to control all five of a person’s senses, and it allowed him to take on some of the series’ strongest Bankai. He achieved true immortality, and his goal was to kill the Soul King and replace him.
2 Joseph Joestar
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
As nearly all of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure‘s protagonists are iconic, Joseph can be overshadowed by his ancestors, especially since Part 2 is usually not seen as one of the absolute best and predates the introduction of Stands. Still, Joseph is one of the most important characters in the franchise, with his braggadocious demeanor and unapologetic excess feeling very refreshing after Jotaro’s straight-laced nature.
In Battle Tendency, Joseph is loud, charming, energetic, and deceptively intelligent. He arguably set the blueprint that every other protagonist would follow, though they all go in unique directions. Also, he plays a significant role in Part 3 and even makes an appearance in Part 4, although he does not technically qualify as a brown-haired male anime character in those sagas.
1 Kyon
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Love or hate it, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is influential. Be it the Endless Eight arc or Haruhi herself, quite a few elements of the anime are divisive, being seen as either a masterclass in writing or incredibly annoying. However, if there is something that everyone seems to agree upon, it is the fact that Kyon is awesome.
Considering all the nonsense happening around him, Kyon’s cynicism helps keep everything just grounded enough to create a balance that permits Haruhi‘s comedy, drama, and philosophy to shine. The show would not work if Kyon was not the protagonist; in fact, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is a masterpiece largely thanks to Kyon’s presence.
