Xbox players now have access to two brand-new dynamic console backgrounds to celebrate the recent release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. After waiting ten years since for the latest title in the popular fantasy RPG series, these backgrounds allow gamers to personalize their Xbox and enjoy Dragon Age: The Veilguard in style.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard released on October 31 to largely positive reviews from gamers and critics, with many fans praising the game’s highly polished combat mechanics. Despite moving away from the traditional tactical combat of the series’ earliest entries, the more streamlined, dynamic action follows the franchise’s trend towards gameplay typical of modern action RPGs – a journey begun in Dragon Age 2 and further developed in 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisiton. After waiting ten years for the next installment, the game’s “mostly positive” rating on Steam suggests that many fans believe that Dragon Age: The Veilguard marks a return to form for BioWare, a much-needed regaining of trust after the lackluster launch of 2019’s ambitious but ultimately unsuccessful Anthem.

Xbox and EA are celebrating the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard by giving Xbox gamers two free dynamic backgrounds to customize their console. Titled “Dragon Age: The Veilguard (Dragon)”, the first background unsurprisingly features the party of adventurers dwarfed by a huge dragon, while dynamic lighting oscillates from behind a total eclipse. “Dragon Age: The Veilguard (Minrathous)” depicts the grand capital city of the Tevinter Imperium, one of the biggest cities ever created by BioWare, while dynamic rainfall sets an atmospheric and haunting tone.

Two Dragon Age: The Veilguard Backgrounds Are Now Available To All Xbox Players

The two backgrounds are found under the “Dynamic Background” section in the console’s personalization settings. They join an extensive library of moving artworks from popular titles such as Starfield, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and even the recently released and highly rated Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Despite the initially positive response, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has now been targeted by review bombers, whose thousands of negative reviews have brought the game’s Metacritic user score down to a measly 3.6/10. Some players have criticized the game’s vibrant art style as being more cartoon-like than the darker tone set by previous Dragon Age games, while others have suggested that the game’s dialogue and decision-making lacks the finesse excepted from a typical BioWare RPG. However, a majority of the review bombing sees internet users taking issue with the game’s inclusive portrayal of LGBT+ characters, claiming BioWare to be pushing a “woke agenda”. However, the favorable reviews from critics show that there are plenty of people who have enjoyed this latest outing into one of the most popular fantasy worlds gaming has to offer, so many may end up making use of these Xbox backgrounds.
