The Veilguard Isn’t Getting DLC, Focus Is On Mass Effect 5
Key Takeaways
- Just as quickly as Dragon Age: The Veilguard has arrived, it seems to be in the rearview of Bioware.
- That’s because the EA-owned studio has no plans for post-launch DLC, instead shifting its focus to Mass Effect 5.
- In an interview with Rolling Stone, that bit of information was revealed, though IGN further reported that QOL improvements and smaller content updates are planned.
- Mass Effect 5 is the long-awaited return to the sci-fi franchise, however, details have been scarce.
After an entire decade of waiting, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is finally here. The next title in Bioware’s iconic Dragon Age series became a smash-hit among critics, with our own Stacey Henley writing in their review that it’s a “much needed return to form for BioWare,” due to “traditions of excellent character writing” and “strong world building through narrative quests.”
But just as quickly as The Veilguard has arrived, don’t expect long-term support for it. That’s because Bioware does not have any plans for post-launch DLC, confirming previous reports. Instead, the EA-owned studio will be shifting its focus to Mass Effect 5, the long-awaited return to its popular sci-fi franchise.

Hello And Goodbye
In an interview with Rolling Stone, creative director John Epler discussed a number of topics related to Dragon Age, Bioware and the future. Via that interview, Rolling Stone reported the following:
BioWare confirms that there are currently no plans for downloadable expansions. The developers’ full attention has now shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect as their current project.
In a follow-up report from IGN, the website stated that its understanding is that The Veilguard will receive quality-of-life improvements and smaller content updates, but as far as large DLC similar to previous titles, that is not in the plans.
Mass Effect 5 Is Coming
To this point, details about the next Mass Effect have been relatively scarce. Still, things have somewhat picked up in the wake of Veilguard’s release.
For one, the next Mass Effect will maintain the “mature tone” that was present in the original trilogy. That bit of information comes from lead developer Michael Gamble, who in a recent Twitter post, affirmed that the franchise will remain true to itself. Additionally, the game will also retain its photorealistic quality, per Gamble. And so long as Gamble is in charge, it’ll retain that quality.
Prior to that, on N7 Day 2022, there was some concept art showcased. That art seemingly implied that the “Destroy” ending is the true canon sequence. Perhaps with The Veilguard in the rearview, we can begin getting some more concrete Mass Effect 5 details. But considering how long Dragon Age fans waited for this moment, I think we can give them their space.
