The Best W-Engines In Zenless Zone Zero
W-Engines are the main piece of gear you need to equip your Zenless Zone Zero Agents to get stat boosts in battle. In Genshin Impact, you know them simply as Weapons, while Honkai: Star Rail calls them Light Cones. Other non-HoYoverse gacha games might have a different name for them, but you get the gist of it. In ZZZ, different types of characters can equip specific types of W-Engines to boost their abilities in battle, whether they’re Stun, Support, Attack, Defense, or Anomaly Agents.

W-Engines belong to different Ranks depending on the quality and quantity of the bonuses they provide. A B-Rank W-Engine might work well in a specific situation, but a similar S-Rank W-Engine will add more boosts for the character wearing it and their allies. Of course, you don’t need S-Rank W-Engines to achieve victory, and it’s recommended to pick the ones more suited for your playstyle above anything else since most require unique conditions to trigger their bonuses.

CRIT DMG 19% |
This Attack W-Engine is a powerful tool for Zhu Yuan, the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team leader. And while other Attack Agents can increase their CRIT Rate with the Riot Suppressor Mark VI, only Zhu Yuan can unlock its full potential in battle.
That’s because this S-Rank W-Engine can increase the Agent’s DMG by 35 percent after dealing Ether DMG with their Basic Attack. Since Zhu Yuan is the only Ether Attack Agent, this piece of gear is almost exclusively for her.

Deep Sea Visitor

CRIT Rate 9.60% |
Ellen’s signature W-Engine is another great option for Attack Agents, although you’ll get better results if you give it to the shark girl. Deep Sea Visitor was the first ever W-Engine featured in a banner at ZZZ’s launch and can add 25 percent Ice DMG to Ellen’s stats.
Additionally, Ellen and any other Attack Agent can benefit from a 10 percent increase of their CRIT Rate after using their Basic ATK, so it’s not too different from the Riot Suppressor Mark VI, another top-tier Attack W-Engine. However, Deep Sea Visitor takes advantage of Ellen’s double dodge to increase her CRIT Rate by another 10 percent when you land a Dash Attack.

Steel Cushion

CRIT Rate 9.60% |
Steel Cushion is Nekomata’s signature W-Engine but can work pretty well for other Attack units like Billy and Corin. Equipping this W-Engine, your units get an additional 25 percent DMG with any ability as long as you attack your enemies from behind. That might be enough for some players, but Steel Cushion also increases Physical DMG by 20 percent.
As mentioned, this is great for Nekomata, Billy, and Corin, so most players can benefit from it since both Billy and Corin are free characters you get at the start of the game. However, a lot of other Attack units deal Physical DMG, even when they belong to other Attributes like Ether or Ice. So, Steel Cushion is still a great alternative for most Attack Agents in ZZZ.

The Restrained
Rarity |
S-Rank |
Type |
Stun |
Base ATK |
46 |
Adv. Stat |
Impact 7.20% |
Stun Agents are also considered DPS units in Zenless Zone Zero, and The Restrained is one of the best W-Engines you can get for them. Attacking enemies with any ability will increase your Agent’s DMG and Daze by 6 percent. You can stack this effect up to five times if you use all the skills at your disposal.
By inflicting more Daze, you’ll be able to stun enemies often to apply Anomaly Effects and finish them off quickly with Attack Agents in your team. This W-Engine is Lycaon’s signature weapon but can enhance any Stun unit, including the free-to-play and fan-favorite Anby.

Fusion Compiler
Rarity |
S-Rank |
Type |
Anomaly |
Base ATK |

Adv. Stat |
PEN Ratio 9.60% |
Anomaly Agents that equip Fusion Compiler will get a 12 percent increase of their ATK right off the bat. This benefits any Anomaly unit since they specialize in inflicting Attribute Anomaly on enemies in battle.
On top of that boost, you’ll need to use their Special Attack or EX Special Attack to trigger the second effect and grant your character a 25 Anomaly Proficiency bonus. This further improves the Agent DMG output, meaning the Attribute Anomaly debuff you apply will wreak havoc on enemies.
5
Weeping Cradle
Rarity |
S-Rank |
Type |
Support |
Base ATK |
46 |
Adv. Stat |
PEN Ratio 9.60% |
Support Agents aren’t supposed to fight a lot in Zenless Zone Zero and their most important abilities are usually passive buffs that work best when they’re off-field. Weeping Cradle takes advantage of that, regenerating 0.6 Energy per second for your Support unit while they wait on the bench.

Naturally, the S-Rank Agents are the most useful and powerful characters in ZZZ. But which one is the best?
When your Support character joins the battle, Weeping Cradle increases the DMG dealt to all the enemies you hit, so it’s great for Agents with AoE abilities like Rina or Nicole. You’ll get better results if you only use your Support unit for Assists and Chain Attacks.

The Brimstone

Adv. Stat |
ATK 12% |
You can’t go wrong with this Attack W-Engine. After equipping it, your Agents will get a 3.5 percent ATK buff after using either their Basic Attack, Dash Attack, or Dodge Counter. This effect can stack up to eight times, which means you can get an ATK bonus of almost 30 percent to deal with powerful enemies.
Soldier 11 is an overlooked character in ZZZ so her signature W-Engine isn’t anyone’s first pick. However, it’s a very versatile S-Rank W-Engine that works with any Attack Agent, so keep it in mind if you don’t have better options.
3
Tusks of Fury
Rarity |

Impact 7.20% |
Defense Agents aren’t very popular in Zenless Zone Zero, but they have some powerful W-Engines you can take advantage of to protect your whole team. Tusks of Fury, courtesy of the Sons of Calydon faction, is the best W-Engine for Defense units like Ben, Seth, and Caesar King.
You’ll get 30 percent more Shield value for starters, which already enhances your Defense characters a lot. If that’s not enough for you, no worries, as you can also get DMG and Daze buffs for the whole team by triggering Interrupt and Perfect Dodges.
2
Ice-Jade Teapot

S-Rank |
Type |
Stun |

Adv. Stat |
Impact 7.20% |
Qingyi is a top-tier Stun unit with combos that almost feel automatic, so her signature W-Engine exploits that. Ice-Jade Teapot fits the other Stun Agents’ gameplay as well, increasing their Impact up to 30 times in battle.

This W-Engine can also enhance the whole team by increasing their ATK by 20 percent for a limited time. Lycaon, Koleda, and Anby might have a harder time reaching those conditions, but Qingyi can do it in no time. Make sure to take advantage of these buffs in time with your whole team.

Flamemaker Shaker
Rarity |

Adv. Stat |
ATK 12% |
Similar to some Support W-Engines, Flamemamaker Shaker enhances the equipper’s Energy Regen while they’re off-field. Then, if you play your cards right, you can increase your overall DMG output by landing EX Special or Assist Attacks. Last but not least, you can also enhance your Agent’s Anomaly Proficiency to decimate enemies with even more damage.
This W-Engine introduced with the 1.2 update added some interesting buffs that players might not expect for Anomaly Agents but works great with all of them in ZZZ.
