Kingdom Two Crowns: Best Use Of Gems
Gems are a form of currency in Kingdom Two Crowns. Here are the best things they can be used for.
Mounts are an integral part of Two Crowns. The player-controlled Monarch always rides a horse, a griffin, or a bear. It is fair to say that mounts are as much part of the player avatar as the Monarch. Choosing which mount to use is one of the few character customization options for players. In addition, mounts unlock new ways to play the game and experiment with different mechanics. Here are all the mounts in Kingdom Two Crowns, their advantages, disadvantages, and tips about how to use them.
8 Standard Horse
The Baseline
There isn’t much to say about the standard horse other than that it’s the player’s trusty steed. This is the mount that the player is given at the beginning of the game and sets the standard for mount mechanics. Just like all other mounts, It can walk or gallop, the latter of which depletes stamina.
Grazing in open fields will quickly fill this mount’s stamina and give it a temporary stamina buff, but it can’t graze in forests, in caves, or during winter. It’s good practice to avoid galloping until the horse is completely exhausted by paying attention to visual and audio cues of exhaustion and pacing accordingly.
7 Warhorse
Looks Cool, But Moves Slow
The Warhorse can be found on the third island. It costs 2 gemstones and 8 gold to unlock. It can cast a protection spell on nearby units that lasts about 10 seconds and has a 15-second cooldown. This spell is useful for attacking Greed Portals and protecting subjects, giving them a bit more time to retreat behind walls without losing their tools.
However, this mount has very little stamina and very low speed, to the point that it struggles to reach the cave entrance after arming the bomb. These drawbacks make the Warhorse a cool-looking but frustrating mount to use.
6 Draft Horse
Affordable Transportation
The Draft Horse is found on the third island. It is one of the two cheapest mounts in the game, costing only one gemstone and 3 gold to unlock. It is basically an upgraded version of the standard mount. It doesn’t have any special abilities but makes up for this shortcoming with decent speed and a huge stamina pool.

Its lack of special abilities makes it lackluster for combat purposes, and there are better-suited mounts for forest exploration. However, the Draft Horse is perfect for getting around and managing a large, sprawling base.
5 Stag
Hunting Advantages
While not the first mount the player encounters, the Stag is the earliest available mount, found on the second island, and costing 1 gemstone and 3 gold to unlock. It is one of the two cheapest mounts in the game. This mount can charm deer, luring them closer to hunters, which is a useful ability in situations where the gold output is very low, such as winters and right after arriving on a new island.
The Stag has better stamina and a faster gallop than the starter horse, and it also gets a slight speed boost in forests. These factors make it one of the best mounts for exploration. Overall, the Stag is a decent mount that gives players a significant edge in the early game but becomes less useful as both the player and the Greed Waves grow more powerful.
4 Unicorn
Pricey, But Will Recoup The Investment In…Poop?
Located on the fifth island with a price tag of 4 gemstones and 12 gold, the Unicorn is the game’s most expensive mount, and a very late-game one. It assists players with an elegant skill that is fit for such a majestic creature: pooping gold. The unicorn poops 3 gold pieces every time it grazes. This ability has a 10-second cooldown, and it cannot be activated during winter. Theoretically, it could be used to quickly set up and upgrade a base right after arriving on a new island, but since this mount is found in the final island of the game, players don’t get an opportunity to use its ability as such.

However, this doesn’t mean the Unicorn is useless at all. Its gold poop can fund the repairs after a particularly destructive wave, or rebuild a previous base that was wrecked by the game’s decay mechanics. Having only slightly better than average speed and stamina and lacking a combat ability can become a significant shortcoming in the late stages of the game though. That’s why it’s advisable to use the unicorn alongside a combat mount, or to use it in co-op where one player focuses on base building while the other handles the Greed.
3 Bear
Deadly, With Great Stamina
Not all the mounts in Two Crowns are horses, or horse-adjacent mythical creatures. Players can also ride a huge, chubby Bear if they want to. The Bear is located on the fourth island, and it costs 3 gemstones and 10 gold to unlock. It has a moderate running speed and very low stamina, but its walking speed is significantly faster than other mounts. It grazes to replenish stamina, and its special ability is a charge attack that can be used for hunting rabbits and deer, as well as fighting the Greed. This charge attack doesn’t have a timed cooldown but instead uses the stamina mechanic.
The Bear can attack three times before becoming exhausted. The attacks don’t use up the stamina for running, so it’s possible to do one or two charge attacks and still be able to run. This ability can be used to hunt deer and rabbits in parts of the islands where hunters don’t patrol, as it one-shots rabbits and two-shots deer. Players can also use the Bear to experiment with a more offensive play style. This can be risky though, as they can find themselves in the middle of a horde of Greed and incapable of running. The safest way to use the Bear against Greed is to stay close to the walls, using the charge attack against Greedlings and then quickly retreating. The Bear is certainly a niche choice, but what it lacks in utility, it makes for with cuteness.
2 Lizard
Fire-Breathing Friend
The Lizard can be unlocked on the fourth island for 3 gemstones and 3 gold. This is quite a unique mount, both in terms of appearance and mechanics. It walks and runs fast, but has very low stamina. The Lizard doesn’t graze to replenish stamina. Instead, it sunbathes, and the amount of stamina buff it receives from the sun depends on a few factors, such as the weather, the season, and the time of day. The Lizard can still sunbathe on cloudy days, during winter, and in the dusk and dawn hours, but receives less stamina as it absorbs less sunlight when doing so. It can’t sunbathe at night, in forests, or inside caves.
The Lizard’s fire does not damage rabbits or deer and cannot be used for hunting. It doesn’t damage Greed Portals either, and using it while attacking portals can be detrimental as soldiers cannot walk over fire. A good tactic is to use Spitfire near the Greed Portal right as the Greed is emerging, getting in extra damage early on. However, players who use this tactic should pay attention to the Lizard’s stamina levels to avoid running out of stamina while being chased by the Wave.
1 Griffin
Master Of All
As players explore the first island, a creature falls from the sky right in front of them, making a sound similar to that of a meteor crash. This creature is the Griffin. It is the earliest mount the player encounters, but since there are no gemstones on the first island, it’s only possible to unlock it after moving on to at least the second island. It costs 2 gemstones and 8 gold to unlock. While the Griffin does not rank the highest in any single attribute, the sum of its parts makes it a great mount. Its special ability is a zoning attack: it flaps its wings to push back Greed. This ability is easy to use and has a small cooldown. Using it a bunch of times in succession will exhaust the Griffin, but when timed correctly it pushes Greed back quite a distance, including large ones like Breeders. This earns precious time for the player’s forces to do some damage.
Additionally, the Griffin eats rats instead of grazing. It can pluck a rat off of the ground and swallow it anywhere in the game world, including in Greed caves. This means that, unlike all the other mounts, the Griffin can get a stamina buff anywhere in the game world, regardless of time of day or season. This makes it useful for attacking, defending, exploring, and bombing caves. These factors, combined with its above-average speed and stamina, earn the title of the best mount in Kingdom Two Crowns for the Griffin.
