Silksong Should End 2024 With a Bang

Silksong Should End 2024 With a Bang

Hollow Knight: Silksong has become notorious as one of the most highly anticipated titles currently stuck in development hell. There is an extensive roster of games currently bound to this fate, but Hollow Knight: Silkong has sat at the top of the list for several years now. After the impressive success of its 2017 predecessor, many gamers have Silksong on their list of games to be most excited about, but the long wait has also proven frustrating.

Announced back in 2019, there were expectations that Silksong would require a bit of a wait, since developer Team Cherry is an incredibly small team. However, five years later with no end in sight, the impending launch of the sequel is a huge mystery. The game was once scheduled to launch in the first half of 2023, but it clearly failed to meet the deadline. Over a year has passed since any significant update has been given, but the long development of Silksong doesn’t mean Team Cherry has to end 2024 in silence.

Ending the Year With a Long-Awaited Bang

Although it would be incredibly exciting, it seems highly unlikely that Silksong will be launched within this year’s final months. The silence surrounding Silksong has felt quite loud as of late. Team Cherry’s head of marketing and publishing, Matthew Griffin, offered this year’s only substantial piece of information by merely confirming via X on Valentine’s Day that the developers are still hard at work on the game. Although it’s great to have confirmation that Silksong is alive and well, the clock is quickly ticking, and many eager fans may simply give up hope. This could potentially hurt the hype surrounding the sequel, and Team Cherry would be wise to at least make an official statement before 2025 hits.

A Barren Year For Silksong Doesn’t Have to Be a Bad Sign

With such a significant amount of time passing since the game’s last true update, it’s understandable for fears to arise about Silksong potentially never seeing the light of day. Thankfully, Matthew Griffin’s short statement debunks these theories, but if Team Cherry wants to reignite hype and optimism for its sequel, a much bigger update is necessary. There have been instances of false hope for Silksong this year, but as one of the biggest events in gaming still looms in the distance, Team Cherry could have the perfect stage to finally give fans a major pick-me-up.

Team Cherry Missing Major Gaming Events Could Be Leading to a Bigger Reveal

There is no way to know Team Cherry’s plans, but as The Game Awards loom in the distance, Silksong may get a chance to surprise audiences. Every year, Silksong appearing at The Game Awards has been a common prediction, but it has always been for a good reason. The yearly theories predicting such a reveal at this event can become tiring, but if any stage is going to be the most likely place for a big new announcement, it would be The Game Awards.

‘s musical composer, Chris Larkin, has returned for the sequel.

At some point, Team Cherry will have to address fans in some capacity, and going as big as possible would only make sense. Even if it’s just a new trailer, it could be enough to make the prospect of Silksong feel hopeful again. The high expectations after Hollow Knight must be daunting, but the silence is also worrying.

As one of the biggest mysteries in gaming at the moment, Silksong‘s lengthy timeline will hopefully be addressed eventually. On the bright side, this potentially indicates a well-polished and complete product, but a small glimpse would be a great way to end such a silent year.
