One of the best roguelikes ever and two top 2023 RPGs leave PC Game Pass soon
The launch of Black Ops 6 has brought a wealth of new subscribers to PC Game Pass, and that opens up the potential to a vast library of games that you can play for free as part of the deal. Whether you’ve just recently signed up or you’re a long-term subscriber, it’s good to keep a close eye on what’s available. Unfortunately, games don’t stay on Game Pass forever, and some heavy hitters have now been confirmed to be leaving the service very soon, including two top RPGs from 2023 and one of my favorite roguelikes of all time.
The list of Game Pass games in 2024 is very long, so you won’t be short of options if you’re curious to try something new. You could opt for one of this year’s most interesting newcomers, Capcom’s Kunitsu-Gami, or a long-standing delight like the raucous Deep Rock Galactic. But I’d highly recommend checking out Dicey Dungeons before it slips off the service in just a couple of weeks. One of the best roguelike games I’ve ever played, it strikes a sublime balance between approachability and depth, and supplements it with a seriously stellar soundtrack that will have you bopping along from minute one.
Unfortunately, it’s set to slip off the service on Saturday November 16, just two weeks from the time of writing. Joining it are two of 2023’s best RPGs – Yakuza developer RGG Studio’s phenomenal pairing of Edo-period drama Like a Dragon Ishin and the short but sweet Kiryu spin-off Like a Dragon Gaiden. While the former might be a little long to cram into such a short timeframe, Gaiden is pretty manageable, and well worth it either as a standalone treat or a must-see complement to this year’s Infinite Wealth.
There are more games setting sail on the same day, too. The Microsoft subscription library will also wave goodbye to tactical RPG Persona 5 Tactica, the ultra-chaotic Goat Simulator Windows 10, fantasy city builder Dungeons 4, and mysterious adventure game Somerville from the new studio of former Limbo and Inside producer Dino Patti.
If you’ve yet to try any of these games but have had them on your to-do list, now’s the time. While they’ll be leaving the service very soon, Game Pass subscribers can also buy copies of them on the Xbox store at a discounted price of up to 20% off before they go – although note that both the Like a Dragon games are currently offering even bigger discounts on Steam. Personally, I’d heartily recommend giving both Dicey Dungeons and Like a Dragon Gaiden a look while you still can.
