Nintendo Switch Owners Are Still Waiting For These Wii U Ports

Nintendo Switch Owners Are Still Waiting For These Wii U Ports

Key Takeaways

  • Xenoblade Chronicles X getting a Switch port has prompted some to make Wii U wishlists.
  • One of the more popular Wii U games Switch owners are still waiting for is Star Fox Zero with Yoshi’s Woolly World another top pick.
  • The obvious choices are Zelda’s Twilight Princess and The Windwaker with Switch ports of both rumored for years.

Nintendo might still be being coy when it comes to revealing something, anything about the Switch’s successor, but it’s not like the studio has been ignoring us entirely. As it continues to get its ducks in a row ready for its Switch 2 reveal it has been making people happy with various other smaller announcements. This week, one of those smaller announcements was actually quite a big one as Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition was revealed.

The Switch version of the Wii U game will be more than just a port. The Definitive Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles X will include remastered visuals and additional content. It continues Nintendo’s trend throughout the Switch’s run of reviving fantastic Wii U games that barely anyone played due to the console’s poor sales. It joins the likes of Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, but there are still some games trapped on the Wii U that Switch owners are hoping get the port treatment.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is finally coming to Switch, and pre-orders are already open.

AndreSegers kicked off the conversation shortly after the Xenoblade reveal by sharing the four Wii U games they’re still waiting for on Switch. Included in their quartet are the two obvious Legend Of Zelda ones, The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Astounding that you still can’t play those games on Switch. AndreSegers would also like to see Nintendo Land and Yoshi’s Woolly World find their way to Nintendo Switch before it’s too late.

Not All Of The Wii U’s Best Games Have Been Ported To Switch Yet

Xenoblade Chronicles X Is One Of The Big Ones, Though

Judging by the replies to the tweet above, Woolly World is a popular pick. Not only because it’s a fantastic and unique platformer, but also because some are hoping if Yoshi’s yarn-based adventure is ever released on Switch, it will be accompanied by a Poochy amiibo reprint. The Wii U’s Star Fox Zero is another popular choice, but between the work needed to make the game suitable for Switch and the lack of love Star Fox has been shown during the current Nintendo generation, if there’s one game that’s going to be left on the Wii U forever, it’s that one.

Star Fox Zero official poster

Some have shouted out older installments in series that have effectively been replaced by sequels on Switch that will likely be left on the older console for that very reason. The first Super Mario Maker was a Wii U exclusive but since there’s a Switch sequel that has everything the original had plus more, there’s really no reason to port the original. The same applies to Splatoon. Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3 have been released on Switch since then so again, there’s no reason for Nintendo to go back to the Wii U and rescue the original.
