Suda51 and Shinji Mikami are back with the remaster of their violent and hilarious game from 2011, Shadows of the Damned.

In his beast form, Elliot will make good use of his wings and fly from one side to the other while throwing projectiles against you. Let’s go over all the little details you should keep in mind while fighting, and what will be your best choice of a weapon for this fight.

How To Defeat Elliot Thomas (Beast Form) – First Phase

Garcia looking at the end of a bridge in a volcanic scenario.

The first thing to keep in mind is that Elliot’s initial weak spot will be in his belly — you can’t miss the giant red sphere. It’s recommended that you just use your Hotboner (handgun) or the Teethgrinder (submachine gun). The boss will be a bit far away for the Skullfest (shotgun) to be the best choice.

When you see Elliot’s mouth absorbing air, count three seconds and roll to your left or right; he’ll attack with his long tongue in a straight line.

He can perform this attack multiple times in a row, but not before charging it and staying still for a few seconds. Elliot can also move back for a short moment before getting close to you again.

Apart from his tongue, Elliot can also attack you with red projectiles, in the shape of big crystals. While these will hardly hit you (they aren’t aimed at you), wait for them to reach the ground and destroy them as soon as possible; they have Darkness, and they will infect the area if you’re not quick enough.

As it happens with all the boss fights in Shadows of the Damned, you can’t get out of ammo. Always keep an eye for the ammo boxes around you, which will respawn after being used.

After dealing enough damage to his center, Elliot will stop flying for a moment, until he’s back for phase two.

How To Defeat Elliot Thomas (Beast Form) – Second Phase

The boss is really far away, throwing red cristals at the bridge where Garcia is standing.

This time the boss’ weak point is at the beginning of both wings. The catch is that he will stay in more far away for most of the battle, but you can still reach Elliot easily with your handgun. When he gets close, change to your Teethgrinder and you’ll do more damage faster.

Elliot will have two new moves in this phase: it will create a group of small birds that will fly directly to the projector in the area. Eliminate them with your submachine gun as they will bother your visibility if you let them be over the projector for enough time.

His second new move involves grabbing a big boulder from the lava below you and throwing it against you. Just run from one side to the other, dodging at the last moment to completely avoid damage.

Elliot will also use his moves from the previous phase.

Elliot grabbing a volcanic boulder with his claws, ready to throw it at Garcia.

As you deal enough damage to one of his wings, it will break, and you’ll have to repeat the process with the second one. When the two are down, Elliot will disappear for a moment and appear on the bridge, in front of you.

Now you have to shoot under the bird’s belly, where you see an orange light, with a Light Shot. After this, the weak point will appear, and you need to shoot it until it breaks to win the battle.

Elliot will jump behind himself to confuse you, but beware when he makes a quick jump behind you because he’ll be right next to Garcia, ready to use its claws.

Once defeated, Elliot’s Blue Gem gives you a special invitation for the next chapter, where you’ll use a new weapon.
