Hogwarts Legacy Player Clips Out of the Map and Makes Bizarre Discovery

Key Takeaways

  • A Hogwarts Legacy player accidentally clip into the walls of the Castle and finds something surprising.
  • Specifically, the gamer spotted one of the NPCs used for the Castle’s talking portraits standing around as if they were a normal character.
  • Players have discovered other magical portrait subjects, such as The Fat Lady, in out-of-bounds areas.

A Hogwarts Legacy player made an interesting discovery after clipping inside the walls of Hogwarts Castle, where they found a mysterious woman standing alone. While exploration of the castle and surrounding areas are a big part of the Hogwarts Legacy experience, this is one secret the developers likely didn’t want players to uncover.

Hogwarts Legacy first launched in February 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Subsequent ports brought the game to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. While both fans and professional critics have left it with generally favorable overall reviews, there have been a number of persistent bugs in Hogwarts Legacy, ranging from character models appearing to swim while on land and NPCs passing through walls that should be solid.

Hogwarts Legacy’s clothing mods allow players to revamp how their characters look, whether they prefer a whimsical or a dark aesthetic.

For one player who accidentally managed to clip through the walls of the castle and posted their findings to Reddit, exploring the grounds led them to run into a woman in an out-of-bounds area that’s normally inaccessible. Some other keen-eyed viewers were able to ascertain the woman’s identity as the occupant of the divination portrait located in the Grand Staircase section of Hogwarts Castle. That identity explains why developers would have placed her out of bounds and out of sight, because while the subjects of the portraits in Hogwarts Legacy can move and sometimes talk or make other noises, they’re not supposed to appear as regular people wandering the halls.

Hogwarts Legacy Players Find Portrait Occupants Living in the Walls

The woman from the portrait in the Grand Staircase isn’t the only subject of a painting that players can unintentionally come across in the game. Players have reportedly also found other subjects of magical portraits in Hogwarts Legacy after clipping through the castle’s walls, including The Fat Lady who bars access to the Gryffindor common room entrance, orchestra conductor Heath Heatherton, and the lute-playing minstrel whose portrait appears in a few different locations.

While the halls of Hogwarts Castle continue to reveal their secrets to players as the game nears its two-year anniversary, fans of the game may be able to look forward to having even more to explore in the not-too-distant future. In early October, Insider Gaming reported a rumor that the game would be receiving a Definitive Edition that could be released sometime in 2025. If that report is correct, this Definitive Edition could include 10-15 hours of new Hogwarts Legacy content, which according to the rumor, would also be available as a purchasable DLC to those players who already own other versions of the game.
