Helldivers 2’s Reinforced Scout Striders Are Making Fans Avoid High Difficulties

Helldivers 2's Reinforced Scout Striders Are Making Fans Avoid High Difficulties

Key Takeaways

  • Helldivers 2 players are staying away from high difficulties due to how often Reinforced Scout Striders are blowing them to bits.
  • A lack of warning for rocket fire, resistance to light weapons, and the rate at which they spawn are combining to make this one Automaton a pain to deal with.
  • Fans have offered up solutions, such as reducing spawn rates, removing the rockets completely, or adding a weak spot for light weapons.

Helldivers 2 has all kinds of nasty enemies to deal with (and potentially more soon to come), each one threatening the democracy of our beloved Super Earth. There are plenty of enemy types out there that fans dread coming up against, but one particular foe is causing major headaches, so much so that players are actively avoiding playing the game on higher difficulty levels until developer Arrowhead does something to address them.

That enemy is the much-hated Reinforced Scout Strider, which is essentially Helldivers 2’s version of the Star Wars’ AT-ST. These two-legged monstrosities have been blowing freedom-loving Helldivers to pieces for quite some time now, and it appears as though their ridiculous strength is starting to get to players. Take Reddit user Turtle_Ross_Real as an example, who recently shared their frustration with the Strider on the Helldivers 2 subreddit earlier this week.

A lot of fellow Helldivers 2 players appear to agree with the sentiment, including Special-Seesaw1756, who thinks that the “the complete lack of a telling sign” that a Strider is about to launch a rocket into your face is the most frustrating thing about them. When a Reinforced Scout Strider is completely still, it can be very difficult to tell whether it’s just chilling out, or it’s sizing you up to blow you to smithereens.

Other common complaints include the radius of the rockets that these things fire, which can often ragdoll you out of cover and leave you exposed, and the fact that it’s almost completely invulnerable to light weapons, meaning players have to bring a weapon with medium penetration with them on Helldives. Whatever the problem, it’s pretty clear that Helldivers 2 players are feeling hard done by.

Helldivers 2 Proves Easier Can Be Better

“No pain, no gain” isn’t always the best policy. Sometimes, making it easier on the players can increase playtime and activity.

While there are plenty of people complaining in the replies, there are some offering up potential solutions. One Reddit user reckons all Arrowhead needs to do is reduce the rate at which they spawn, and only have one or two in a pack of Automatons at once. Another solution put forward is to simply remove the enemy’s rockets and replace them with something like a grenade launcher, while others reckon an actual weak spot that can be consistently hit with light weapons would prevent a medium penetration weapon meta from evolving in high difficulties.

It’s pretty obvious that Arrowhead needs to do something though, especially if it wants to entice players into higher difficulty levels. Another Automaton nerf is definitely needed in some capacity, but we’ll have to wait and see whether Arrowhead plans to address it any time soon.
