Best 4-Player Co-Op Games

There are countless 4-player co-op games available for gamers to check out. These, however, are easily among the best.

Co-op games are popular as it is more fun to join in with friends to work together towards a common objective. But PVP can also be light-hearted fun to finally prove who out of the friend group is actually the most skilled, and snag some bragging rights until they are dethroned. This friendly and tongue-in-cheek rivalry results in some truly chaotic fun friends will be laughing about for weeks to come.

8 BattleBlock Theater

Arena Mode Opens the Doors for PVP

  • Release Date: May 15th, 2014
  • Developer: The Behemoth
  • Genres: Platformer

Like any multiplayer platform game, BattleBlock Theater is chock-full of fun gameplay that is almost difficult to keep up with. Players must save Hatty Hattington up on stage by hopping platforms and battling their way to victory with some help from friends. The co-op element is plenty of fun, but for those looking for a way to defeat their friends, there are game modes available.

By hopping into arena mode, players can partake in PVP-oriented gameplay that has deadly consequences for those who are defeated. Games such as Soul Snatcher and Muckle are the deadliest versus game modes that let players kill others in order to grab the glory.

7 In Silence

Proximity Chat Adds to the Chaos and Fear

Released
October 16, 2020

Developer(s)
Ravenhood Games

Sight is normally everything in horror games. It’s, of course, necessary to navigate the surroundings and also to see the cornucopia of horrors carefully designed and placed by developers. Games have dabbled in removing or limiting sight in games such as Stifled and Perception by placing the players behind the eyes of a character with restricted sight, but In Silence utilizes this mechanic in a unique way.

While human characters have unlimited sight to see their surroundings, the monster has extremely limited sight, and must instead rely on sound while hunting their prey. The inclusion of in-game proximity chat, adds an exciting and terrifying addition to the game, as they must be quiet or their friend playing the monster can pounce on them, and cut their hopes of escaping short.

6 Prop Hunt

Hunt Down Players Disguised as Everyday Objects

5 Divinity: Original Sin 2

Only One Can Ascend

Released
September 14, 2017

OpenCritic Rating
Mighty

Divinity: Original Sin 2 facilitates a fantastic multiplayer experience, as up to four friends can pick or create a character to forge ahead in a world besieged by monsters and political tensions. For all of the game, they will be working together towards a common goal and common enemies, ridding the world of the Voidwoken drawn here by those tapping into a resource known as the Source.

During the games’ final hours, players will be presented with different choices they can make that will influence the outcome. If more than one chooses that they want to ascend, this will result in those players being pitted against one another in a surprising PVP battle that they might never have seen coming. They will have to fight each other to the bitter end if they wish to ascend.

4 Among Us

Hide Among Crew Mates to Avoid Being Discovered

Released
June 5, 2018

Developer(s)
InnerSloth

OpenCritic Rating
Strong

Among Us is a basic concept that created an unforgettably chaotic and fun multiplayer experience. A group of friends play as crew members aboard a spaceship that must perform basic maintenance tasks, only there is one twist that will create endless amounts of paranoia: there are imposters hiding among them whose job it is to kill as many crew members as possible without their deadly nature being revealed.

The players can call for emergency meetings when witnessing something unusual, such as a dead body, players teleporting through a vent or even walking in on time to witness murder. Imposters need to play it smart and lie convincingly enough to avoid being booted out through the airlock.

3 Red Dead Online

Online Play Allows Players to Work Together or Against One Another

The Van der Linde gang is keeping the legacy of outlaws alive and well in the time of their decline towards the end of the 1800s. They draw the ire of the Pinkertons, causing trouble for them and their exploits. This is the crux of the single-player experience of Red Dead Redemption 2, but there is another game mode for those more interested in wrangling together their own posse.

The Best Video Games To Play If You Love Westerns & Cowboys

It’s taken time, but video games that center around cowboys & indulge in the Wild West are now some of the biggest entries in the medium.

The online element of Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online, lets players customize their very own cowboy, or cowgirl, and set out into the open world, exploring, hunting, completing quests, and playing with their friends. But what’s even more fun is playing against them, as there is freedom to play however they wish. They can mildly annoy friends with hilarious antics such as lassoing them, or even go in for their kill by using deadly force if they are willing to risk receiving a bounty.

2 Dead by Daylight

Custom Games Allow up to Five Friends in One Match

Released
June 14, 2016

OpenCritic Rating
Fair

Normally while queuing for a round of Dead by Daylight, players are given the option of queuing with up to 3 friends for survivor or going solo for a killer match. They can try to be paired with their killer friends in normal games, but the likelihood is close to zero. But if players want to be given a guaranteed way to kill their friends, they can instead set up a custom game lobby.

Now custom games allow up to five players in one game lobby, with four playing survivors and the fifth friend taking on the role of the killer. They won’t receive any blood points or rift progression for these matches, but now their fifth friend won’t be left out, and they won’t be paired with any random players. They play the game as usual, with the four survivors completing objectives to escape, and the killer doing everything in their power to sacrifice them to the entity.

1 Magicka 2

Friendly Fire is Always a Risk

Magicka 2
Systems

Released
May 26, 2015

Developer(s)
Pieces Interactive

OpenCritic Rating
Fair

Magicka has made its fame and fans through being a predominantly cooperative game, encouraging players to rope friends into the spell-slinging saga. In this game, it’s left to a few of the survivors from the Wizard War to save a child prophesied for greatness. They could potentially save the world, if they can stop themselves from burning it down themselves, first.

The gameplay is one of the draws of Magicka, as it is one of the most chaotic. The players gain great mastery over the elements. They can use their magic to easily manipulate and decimate the enemy forces in front of them, as well as their friends. Friendly fire ensures that anyone in the wrong place at the wrong time could fall into allied spells, or maybe one player is just feeling particularly mischievous and decides to incinerate them all in a blaze of glory. Magicka 2 is the best and funniest way to experience brutal PVP play.
