Spoilers for From Season 3.
Key Takeaways
- The harrowing scene with Tabitha’s phone call wasn’t initially part of From’s script.
- Season 3 of From is currently airing, maintaining suspense and scary encounters.
- From boasts talented actors and terrifying humanoid monsters, rivaling other top sci-fi shows.
From is packed with disturbing and traumatic encounters that see the entire group put at risk every night by monstrous creatures, but one particularly harrowing scene involving Tabitha, played by Catalina Sandino Moreno, who will also star in the John Wick Spin-Off, Ballerina, wasn’t initially part of the show’s script. Released in 2020, From follows the story of a group of strangers who end up trapped in a nightmarish town by terrifying nocturnal forces who immerge themselves from the forest on a killing spree.
The third season of From is currently airing on the rebranded MGM+, which premiered on September 22, 2024, meaning that the highly acclaimed sci-fi series hasn’t, as yet, spilled into the pool of television shows that went on too long. As season three continues to head down a nail-biting and obscure route, fans get an exciting behind-the-scenes tidbit regarding Tabitha’s gut-wrenching phone call to her mother.

The Most Influential Women In Science Fiction
These women have not only managed to carve out their own place in the science-fiction genre, but changed it forever in some big ways.
In an interview with Screen Rant, From‘s Catalina Sandino Moreno opened up regarding a scene from season three, in which her character Tabitha can be seen making a call to her mother. Viewers saw Tabitha at the end of From season two heading into a lighthouse portal that brought her to the outside in Camden, Maine. Due to being pushed from the lighthouse by “the boy in white,” fans then saw Tabitha in the hospital in season three, where she is confused about how she escaped the town. After finally leaving the hospital, Tabitha gets to call her mother to tell her that she’s still alive, but viewers weren’t actually meant to see the tearjerking conversation, which could even rival some of Disney’s most heartbreaking scenes.
“That phone call was not written. At the beginning, there was Tabitha calling her mother, but we didn’t see that phone call.” said Catalina Sandino Moreno. “And I remember just saying to John, “Listen, something bad happens, I call my mom. Something good happens, I call my mom. Something medium happens, or I’m happy, or I’m sad, or anything. The first person I call is my mother.”
As seen in From episode 3, Tabitha meets Victor’s father, Henry, and although he is skeptical of her story at first, the pair drive to the original bottle “Faraway tree” but get into a horrific car accident before reaching their destination. Sandino Moreno jokingly states in the interview how she wishes that Tabitha could have woken up in a Caribbean location instead of a cold and wet Maine, but also mentions how great it was to have Robert Joy, who plays Henry, join the cast due to his older and wiser calming energy, as many of the characters in the show are fairly young.
Not only does the series have a fantastic line-up of talented actors, which includes the likes of Lost‘s Harold Perrineau as Boyd Stevens, Band of Brothers’ Eion Bailey as Jim Matthews, and Elizabeth Saunders as Donna Raines, who is best known for her role as the voice of Mrs Turtle in the Canadian animated series Franklin, From‘s gruesome humanoid monsters truly make it one of the most terrifying shows currently on TV.
Drawing comparisons to Lost and Netflix’s Midnight Mass, From‘s monsters are integral to the show’s core, with some human characters echoing the beats of The Walking Dead‘s best villains. As season three deepens the show’s central mystery with horrific discoveries and brutal encounters, From is very much on its way to becoming one of the best sci-fi shows ever made.
