Final Fantasy 14’s first major patch post-Dawntrail is finally releasing this month, as it was confirmed during the most recent Live Letter that players will be able to dive into some much-needed new content on November 12. On top of that, a release schedule was shared with fans detailing exactly when new raids and quests will drop, all the way up to January.
While you’d have thought this would be an exciting time for Final Fantasy 14 players, and there are quite a few people looking forward to the first portion of the Echoes of Vana’diel Alliance Raid, as well as the absolute mess that is going to be the game’s first Chaotic Alliance Raid. Unfortunately, there’s also a lot of discourse out there at the moment too, as a lot of players are upset about exactly when this content is dropping.
Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.1 Release Schedule Has Fans Divided
One of the biggest complaints about Patch 7.1’s release schedule is the timing of both the Futures Rewritten Ultimate and the Chaotic Alliance Raid. Both of these won’t be released with Patch 7.1 later this month, but have been pushed back a little further. Unfortunately for those in the US, the Futures Unwritten Ultimate lands just before Thanksgiving, while the rest of the world will be suffering alongside them with the Chaotic Alliance Raid, which will be added on Christmas Eve.
Those are two pretty big holidays, and while you could forgive Yoshi-P for releasing something near Thanksgiving, releasing something so major as brand-new content one day before Christmas is a little bizarre. A lot of complaints have also arisen due to the fact that releasing high difficulty content like this near national holidays means the respective races to world first clears will be a lot more difficult to both watch and take part in.

And it’s not even the gameplay I’m worried about, it’s Prishe’s design.
Another fairly common complaint about the release schedule is the feeling that Square Enix is drip feeding things to players too slowly, giving players very little incentive to stick around. These complaints are a lot more contested among Final Fantasy 14 fans, with some claiming that you can very easily go play other games, but the complaints are nevertheless there.
In pretty much any tweet or Reddit thread discussing the release schedule, you’ll find players complaining about the patch feeling “stretched out” or a little lacking in things to do, along with a lot of people baffled by the timing that proper content is released. But hey, at least we get some new MSQ to go through this month, which will actually clear up one of the biggest mysteries in Dawntrail – the identity of Gulool Ja’s mother. He’s not a clone after all.
Dawntrail is the fifth full expansion for Square Enix’s MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, and marks the start of an all-new story arc. It takes the Warrior of Light across the ocean to the continent of Tural, adds the new Viper and Pictomancer jobs, and a host more dungeons, raids, and more.
