Dragon Age: The Veilguard – How to Power the Door in the Elven Ruins

The quest “In Entropy’s Grasp” is part of the introduction to Dragon Age: The Veilguard. As you approach the Nadas Dirthalen, the game teaches you about essential concepts like combat mechanics, advantage, and puzzle options.

One of the last puzzles of the quest requires you to open a door. However, you need two power crystals to get it to open, and there’s only one sitting in the nearby nodes. If you’re having trouble finding this second node, read on to learn the solution to this Dragon Age: The Veilguard puzzle.

I wouldn’t chalk mine up as the most creative or thought-invoking protagonist ever, but I think I’ll go out there a bit more for my second and third characters. But, nonetheless, here is my Rogue human Rook!

Opening the Second Door

First, you can see the second power crystal you need by turning left at the door and looking through the window at the end. However, you can’t get through this window, and there’s a solid wall between you and the area with the power crystal.

Don’t worry about the wall for now. Instead, go pick up the crystal that’s already by the door. You can pick up and move power crystals as much as you want, and for the moment, you’ll need to put this one somewhere else. If you turn directly away from the door, you should see a second door that needs one power crystal to open.

Head over to this second door and insert your crystal into the node. This will open the way to a set of stairs, and the stairs lead up to a platform you can jump onto. There’s a ballista on this platform, but you can’t reach it right now thanks to a large blight boil.

If you get close to the boil, a tooltip should pop up that explains that you can destroy some blight boils to clear the way forward. The tooltip also mentions weak points, but that doesn’t apply right now. Instead, the main point to remember is that you can always destroy glowing blight boils. Do so now, using whatever weapon and attack type you prefer.

The Ballista and the Wall

Once you clear the blight boil, you’ll be able to interact with the ballista. Point it at the blank white wall and fire to create an opening that leads to the other power crystal. Three elven guardians will run through the new opening, but you can use the ballista to make short work of them.

With the threat gone, you can jump down into the central area and head through the broken wall. The second power crystal is to the right. Bring it and the first crystal back to the two nodes by the large door, and your way forward will open.
