Death Stranding 2’s New Confirmed Feature is a Big Step For Accessibility

A recent sneak peek at Death Stranding 2: On the Beach from Hideo Kojima seemingly confirmed that the game will feature a recap option. In a post on X, Kojima revealed an in-progress game menu for Death Stranding 2 that showcased the recap feature front and center. As one of 2025’s most anticipated releases, Kojima Productions’ first franchise is set to get a bold new chapter that promises even more mind-bending storylines.

Although Kojima made it clear that the menu screen shown was still a work in progress and merely temporary, the confirmation of having a recap option is a game-changer. Death Stranding 2‘s tentative menu screen features the basic choices, like “new game” and “load game”, but an option labeled “recap of Death Stranding” could be one of the sequel’s most helpful tools yet. There have only been a handful of updates from Kojima, but each new detail that has been revealed has been further proof that Death Stranding 2 is looking to improve upon its predecessor in a variety of unique ways.

Death Stranding 2’s Recap Option Could Make the Sequel Less Daunting to Approach

Death Stranding’s Robust Lore Can Be Challenging to Grasp

By the time the sequel releases next year, the first Death Stranding will be six years old. The game’s story is wonderfully absurd and often confusing, which makes a six-year gap between entries a long time to try and remember the vast amount of lore that was established in Death Stranding. Hideo Kojima is notorious for crafting wild and imaginative worlds and concepts, and that can be quite intimidating for some. Death Stranding is one of the strangest open-world games in recent memory, and the extensive amount of information divulged throughout the story can be hard to keep track of, especially years later.

Fortunately, Death Stranding 2‘s recap option will give players the opportunity to get a solid refresher before they jump into a story that appears to be just as lore-packed, if not more so. As theories continue to rise about Death Stranding 2, Kojima’s method of making a point to drop hints of in-game features has been an exciting way to reveal what is on the horizon while still keeping the game’s story a big secret. Not only is the story and lore a challenge to keep up with, but the roster of fascinating characters is also extensive, and is set to grow even larger soon.

Now that it has been confirmed that Death Stranding 2 is going to allow players to get a refresher of its predecessor’s story, those who are sometimes turned off by Kojima’s bold and outlandish stories may get a better chance at experiencing the next chapter. Between a recap option, live in-game musical performances, and a jaw-dropping photo mode, Death Stranding 2 may strike a solid balance between mind-melting lore-driven storytelling and more accessible enjoyment.

At the moment, there isn’t an official release date for Death Stranding 2, but Kojima has at least confirmed that it will be announced sometime in 2025. It may first seem that Death Stranding is too wild of an idea, but its no-limits approach to exploring a post-apocalyptic world has made it a truly standout series in the industry. Even though the series may not be everyone’s cup of tea, accessibility options like the upcoming recap feature can potentially expand Kojima Productions’ reach.
