When Hades 2 first entered its Early Access release period, players noticed the glaring absence of one weapon in the game’s Silver Pool armory. Speculation that a final weapon would be coming was confirmed when the Black Coat was added with the Olympic Update, Hades 2′s first major expansion. Fans of the series will know that each weapon has variations known as Aspects, which usually change key elements of a weapon’s abilities. This guide will rank all the Black Coat’s three aspects, explaining which version is currently most useful for defeating Chronos and Prometheus.

3. Black Coat Aspect of Nyx – Hades 2
Aspect Name |
Description |
How to Unlock |
---|---|---|
Aspect of Nyx |
You have Omega Boost, which lets you produce Nightspawn after you activate it.
|
Darkness x1 Plasma x4 |
- The Black Coat’s Aspect of Nyx is generally considered to be the least useful for general purposes. The biggest issue this aspect has is that its sprint essentially forces players to use 30 Magick if they attack at the end. While this doesn’t occur in every scenario, it happens enough to wonder why it was designed this way. It is especially egregious when you do not use the Unseen arcana, which automatically recharges your magick. Aside from the main skill, this aspect has the same function as Melinoe’s, only slower.
- The Aspect of Nyx does have its uses, especially when using the Oath of the Unseen. The Nightspawn skill is most helpful when you are forced to take out large quantities of enemies in a hurry. There are certainly better weapons for it, but that is why Nyx’s aspect is currently the least useful of the three.
2. Black Coat Aspect of Selene – Hades 2
Aspect of Selene |
You start with Skyfall, a hidden Hex that strikes multiple foes and applies Shine.
|
Silver x4 Moondust x4 |
---|
- The Aspect of Selene is great for those players who enjoy using the Hex mechanic. When used strategically, Shine can turn a crowd into dust in a matter of seconds. Using the Omega Special is particularly effective with this Hex. When the aspect is upgraded, it requires less Magick to activate the Hex, with the final upgrade making it so players who use magick regularly will be able to use it multiple times in a single encounter.
- Currently, one of the only registered 32 Fear speed runs in the Underworld was done with the Aspect of Selene, which is not surprising. However, for average players, the guaranteed Hex just can’t stand up to the benefits offered from the best aspect.
1. Black Coat Aspect of Melinoe – Hades 2
Aspect of Melinoe |
Your Attack, Sprint, & move speed are faster. |
Basic aspect unlocked with weapon |
---|
- The Aspect of Melinoe, may not seem like the best to all players, but it is undoubtedly the most useful for the largest number of players. It is hard to beat any kind of bonus speed in Hades 2. The benefits permeate just about every aspect of the game. With faster attacks, you do more damage over time. With faster sprint and movement speed, you can get out of the way of attacks that much quicker. The special attack locks on to enemies and releases projectiles faster. It’s hard to overstate how helpful speed is.
- Upgrading the Aspect of Melinoe can get you up to 20% bonus speed, which may not sounds like a lot, but you can absolutely feel it in-game.
All three aspects share the same Omega Attack, Special, and Cast moves. Remember that Omega Attack has the ability to block, replacing the Moonstone Hammer’s ability to do so.
