The Latest Vision Casting News Could Be Confirming An MCU Adaptation of A Marvel Comics Storyline

Key Takeaways

  • The Vision series in the MCU is set to feature Scarlet Witch’s return, and possibly her kids setting up a Young Avengers arc.
  • Casting call hints at the introduction of Wanda’s other son Tommy, a.k.a. Speed, for a potential Young Avengers storyline.
  • Scarlet Witch’s moral complexities hint at potential villainous turn, teasing conflicts in upcoming MCU films.

Vision might be the most interesting upcoming project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for fans of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Wandavision, and a recent casting call for the project seems to up the ante for the character and the MCU at large.

Vision has been on the books at Marvel Studios since the titular character exited the franchise at the end of the Disney+ series Wandavision. While there has long been interest in finding out what Vision had been up to since he was last seen, the project has since become far more about what it might add to the franchise than about the character’s fate. One of the more exciting prospects that fans are looking forward to is the return of Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, a return that has been discussed extensively by insiders and fans and has speculation ranging from a techno-organic resurrection to another villainous run. The one common thread is that no matter what capacity she appears in, her return to the MCU in Vision isn’t the end of her MCU story.

While James Spader’s Ultron also seems poised to make a splash in the Vision series, the most recent developments in the MCU seem to suggest that Wanda will indeed be the real winner in terms of new developments in the franchise. According to well-known source Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is looking for a young teen star to take up a co-lead role in the upcoming Vision series. While this piece of news is interesting enough on its own, it takes up far more significance when the events of Agatha All Along are added into the mix.

Like Vision, Agatha All Along is a spinoff of Wandavision and is related to the events of that series. The show recently revealed that its mysterious teen boy character was actually Billy Maximoff all along, better known to some comic book fans as Wiccan, son of the Scarlet Witch. Agatha All Along explains William Kaplan’s complex transmogrification into Billy, showing his ascension to his powers and potential motivations that will drive him through the MCU narrative. Considering the source material and events already seen in Wandavision, it is very likely that the teen character being cast for a role in the Vision series is Wanda’s other son, Tommy.

Tommy has been a comic book character alongside his brother for a good while, going by the name of Speed and sharing a powerset with his uncle, Quicksilver. The reveal of Billy’s identity on Agatha All Along had fans instantly wonder where Tommy could currently be in the MCU and even where the two kids and their mother could be heading. For the latter, there are several plot points and arcs from the comics that could be making their way to the live-action franchise. One of the more prominent possibilities is the introduction of the Young Avengers to the MCU, as both Billy and Tommy are important members of the team in their superhero alter-egos of Wiccan and Speed, respectively. More exciting is the potential for Wiccan ton kick off the events of the comic book arc Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, which sees the character set out to find his mother when his powers spiral out of control.

The general layout of powers in the MCU, as it stands, means that for better or worse, the Scarlet Witch’s return shouldn’t be as a hero. With her kids potentially coming into their own and other forces in the franchise coming together for another massive conflict, there’s a lot that could be achieved by letting Wanda actually explore the moral complexity that informed her actions in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The MCU’s Vision series is currently set for release to stream on Disney+ in 2026, while Wandavision and Agatha All Along are already available on the platform.
