Monster Hunter Wilds Beta Is The Third-Highest Played Game This Year
Key Takeaways
- Monster Hunter Wilds Beta is Steam’s 3rd highest new game in 2024, with over 463,798 players.
- It surpassed Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Helldivers 2, and Amazon’s Throne and Liberty MMO.
- The beta is the most-played Monster Hunter game on Steam, beating Monster Hunter: World.
The Monster Hunter series is becoming a behemoth. While the game had its fanbase, Monster Hunter: World propelled the series into the mainstream, becoming Capcom’s top-selling game of all time, ahead of anything in the Resident Evil franchise. 2021’s Monster Hunter Rise, incidentally, is Capcom’s second best seller. So, naturally, anticipation was high ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds’ open beta.

Monster Hunter Wilds Is Steam’s Third-Highest Played New Game Of 2024
According to SteamDB, Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test hit a staggering peak of 463,798 on the Valve-owned platform, making it the third-highest concurrent player count for a new title this year, behind Black Myth: Wukong and Palworld.
This means the Wilds Beta, which launched three days early on PS Plus, has beaten Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which Microsoft said was the series’ biggest release ever, Helldivers 2, and Amazon’s immensely popular new MMO, Throne and Liberty—no mean feat for a beta.
Monster Hunter Wilds beta is, in fact, one of the most played games of all time, coming in at 22nd place overall.
The beta for Wilds hasn’t just eclipsed almost everything else that’s come out this year, though, as it’s also now the most-played Monster Hunter game ever on Steam, beating Worlds’ peak high of 334,684 players.
This concurrent player count doesn’t just mean that the beta is one of the most-played games of 2024, either. It is, in fact, one of the highest of all time, coming in at 22nd place, ahead of Starfield, Destiny 2, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Numbers like this, of course, mean that Monster Hunter Wilds sits comfortably atop Steam’s top wishlists chart, with Deadlock, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Delta Force in second, third, and fourth, respectively.
I’m sure Capcom was anticipating a good response to this beta, but you have to imagine it’s blown the company’s wildest estimations out of the water.
Monster Hunter Wilds introduces a dynamic, living world with changing climates, along with the usual variety of giant monsters, weapons, and characters. A new mount, the Seikret, helps you get around more quickly and easily.
