How To Summon Your Mount
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered features a vast open world begging to be explored by Aloy. However, traveling solely on foot is neither fun nor practical, which is why the game includes a mount mechanic that lets players ride across the world on mechanical beasts.
Although there aren’t actual horses, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered offers the next best thing: robotic mounts. Different types of mounts are available in the game, each with their own advantages. The guide below covers how to acquire and summon these mounts.

How To Unlock Mount Ability In Horizon Zero Dawn
Aloy won’t be able to use mounts right from the start. First, she must complete the main quest “The Womb of the Mountain,” which grants her the PSI Override ability. This ability allows her to override seven types of enemy robots, but for the purposes of this guide, only three are important for traversal:
- Strider
- Broadhead
- Charger
These three robotic creatures are the only ones usable for traversal in Horizon Zero Dawn.
How To Override Robots In Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
With the Override ability unlocked, Aloy can now hack a robot to turn it into a mount. Find locations where these robots are common, approach them quietly, and stay out of sight by hiding in tall grass. Sneak up behind them and, when close enough, press the designated button (Triangle on PlayStation, and the “E” key on keyboard) to override these beasts.
If successful, you can now mount the robot and ride it across the land. Keep in mind, however, that mounts have limited health, so they can become incapacitated if attacked. Later, you’ll unlock a skill that allows you to repair your mount.
For combat, Chargers are the best option, followed by Broadheads.
How To Call Your Mount In Horizon Zero Dawn
Now that you have a mount, you might want to call it to your location for a quick getaway — or simply to avoid walking to it. Fortunately, the game lets you do just that.
First, make sure the Call Mount icon is selected in your Tool Slot, which you can do so by pressing the D-Pad left and right on a controller or the X and Z keys on a keyboard. Then, press the designated button to call your mount, which is D-Pad Down on the controller or the R key on the keyboard. Now, your nearby mount will come to your location.
This ability works only when you already have an overridden mount nearby. However, you can bypass this condition by unlocking the Call Mount+ skill, which allows you to summon a random overridden robot type without having to hack it first. Just ensure the Call Mount icon is selected, and whistle for a mount, and an already overridden robot will arrive at your location.
