The quest to “Make Contact with Edith” is not just a milestone in the Ghost Historian aspiration but also a key to unraveling one of The Sims 4: Life & Death expansion’s most touching and mysterious storylines. Hovering over this goal hints that players should first locate Weeping Mother Alice, who can be found wandering Ravenwood’s Mourningvale or Crow’s Crossing neighborhoods. Players can search for her specter near the swings in Crow’s Crossing or around the Well of Longing and Regret. However, the most reliable way to encounter Alice is at the Guardian Tree in Mourningvale, a unique, twisted tree with special interactions. Here, players can use the “Summon Alice” option, making her NPC ghost spawn nearby. After introducing themselves to Alice, players will see the “Ask about Alice’s Sorrow” interaction, which initiates her quest to find her children and uncover the truth about their fates.

This interaction sets the stage for the Alice’s Sorrow mini-quest, revealing hints and tasks for players to complete along the way. Alice’s main wish is to know what happened to each of her children, setting players on a journey through Ravenwood to find them. Although completing the quest isn’t strictly necessary to finish the “Making Contact with Edith” goal, tracking down each of Alice’s children not only provides emotional depth to the story but also unlocks additional interactions with the Guardian Tree, making the quest well worth completing for players who enjoy hunting for lore in the Sims 4.

The tasks for this mini quest is as follows:

  1. Find Deimos
  2. Find Freddy
  3. Find Ann
  4. Fine Edith
  5. Report to Alice

How to Find Deimos

Deimos can be found in any of the crypts within Ravenwood, or by purchasing The Crypt of Eternity through Buy/Build mode. This time, the interaction for “Explore the Underground Crypts” will display the same icon as the Alice’s Sorrow quest, indicating that finding Deimos is possible here. Players should enter the crypt and wait until they receive a pop-up related to Alice’s Sorrow, then select Read the Stone Tablet to progress. After a short time, the Sim will learn Deimos’s fate and be able to locate the next of Alice’s children.

How to Find Freddy

Next, players must travel to the Crow’s Crossing neighborhood in Ravenwood and locate the specters near the swings in the central area. One of these specters should be Freddy. To identify him, players need only click on each specter and check if the “Ask about Alice’s Sorrow” option appears. Selecting this interaction will fulfill this part of the quest, allowing players to move on to the next child, Ann.

How to Find Ann

This time, players will need to head to the Whispering Glen neighborhood and search for a solitary gravestone on a small island near the river. At first, it may be challenging to locate the correct section of the river, but zooming out and navigating to the far corner of the map, where the river widens significantly, should help. Though the gravestone may be somewhat hard to spot from a distance, the island is conveniently situated close to a nearby pile of ancient ruins, making it a bit easier to pinpoint. Once players find the gravestone, they can select “Read Epitaph” on the headstone. Completing this interaction will allow them to move on to the final step: finding Edith.

How to Find Edith

Of all Alice’s children encountered in this quest, Edith stands out as the most interactive, offering a variety of unique actions that can have different outcomes, some more favorable than others. To find her, players need to return to the Crow’s Crossing neighborhood, this time heading towards the Well of Longing and Regret, which can be spotted on the outskirts near a large pre-made residential house and an ancient tower. The well itself emits a distinctive blue glow. Here, players should choose the option to “Wish for Courage to Face Edith.” This wish not only makescdlp;;; connecting with Edith easier but also grants a reward trait, allowing Sims to perform the “Unnerving Stare” interaction on others. Edith, a red child ghost, will eventually appear roaming around the area. Initiating communication with her successfully completes the “Make Contact with Edith” goal for the Ghost Historian aspiration.

However, players are encouraged to interact further with Edith to unlock additional benefits. Building a friendly relationship will unlock the option to “Ask for My Mark,” enhancing the chances of the next wish on the well succeeding. After players learn Edith’s story, they can return to Alice at the Guardian Tree to report on her children’s fates, thereby completing the Alice’s Sorrow quest. This achievement unlocks exclusive interactions with the Guardian Tree, including “Refill Needs” for ghost Sims and a special “Scavenge” option for all Sims, which can come in quite handy.

Peel back the veil to uncover the secret to richer Sim lives and beyond in The Sims™ 4 Life & Death Expansion Pack. Achieve your dreams in life by ticking items off your Bucket List or pursue them as a Ghost with Unfinished Business. There is a ghastly new world to haunt, a career that’ll bring you closer to Grim, Wills to write, Crypts to explore, and even ghostly skills to master. There are no real endings — only transitions — as you move between life, afterlife, and even rebirth.

KEY FEATURES:
An Endless Journey — Build your Bucket List by collecting goals throughout your Sim’s life, starting as a Young Adult. Items will appear on your list based on your Sim’s traits and family relations, and you can also choose your own. Removing items is possible, but completing them yields powerful rewards. If a Sim’s life ends with items still on their list, they can devote their afterlife to completing their Unfinished Business. The ultimate reward for experiencing everything on their list is the option to be Reborn, though you can still choose to Move On or remain on this plane as a Ghost.

A Ghastly, Gorgeous Life — Make death your life’s work with a career of reaping souls, helping Ghosts, dispersing hauntings, and more as a member of Grim’s team. Or, you could become a Mortician and deal with death more from the perspective of the living. Outside of work, you might spend your days exploring Crypts and building your Thanatology skill for the new Ghost Historian Aspiration. These things — among other dark diversions like bonding with your Pet Crow (careful, provoking it could be deadly) or collecting and reading the lost Tarot Cards of Lady Ravendancer Goth — will have a special appeal to Sims who are Macabre, one of 3 new traits.

Goodbye (For Now) — Different Sims will grieve in different ways. There are 4 types that will tie in with both Sims’ personalities and their relationships with the deceased. Grieving Rituals are customizable and unscripted, allowing you to hold whatever type of event (or events) fits your story. In life, Sims can create Wills which can be used to pass down Heirlooms, assign guardians for surviving dependents, distribute their Simoleons, and more. Sims can honor the departed with a memorial display featuring their portrait and by interring their urns in Crypts or with Custom Caskets and Gravesites.

Friendly or Fiendish? — Linger on as a Ghost, and spend your afterlife helping or terrorizing the living. Ghosts will grow in their abilities as they do everything from assisting with household chores to levitating living Sims and hanging them upside down (fun AND profitable — they may drop Simoleons!). Their interactions with the living can earn them Fear or Goodwill essences, which can both be sold for Simoleons. There’s a lot to do after death; Ghosts can even pair up for a special, spectral Woohoo.

A Town Worth Haunting — The veil between life and death is thin in Ravenwood, a 3-neighborhood town. Visit the countryside and perhaps take a swim by the mysterious face in the cliffs. Or, head into the village where you’ll find some odd goods for purchase near the old Specter cemetery, a haunted house to brave, or a festival to attend. The residents of these first 2 neighborhoods are (mostly) alive, but it’s Ghosts who will feel most at home in the third, where you’ll find 2 more festivals and a spectral support group. Living Sims can use its Baleful Bog to have an out-of-body experience and try their hands at being temporary Ghosts. Well, it’s usually temporary. Don’t overdo it.
