Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster Launches To ‘Mixed’ Reviews On Steam
Key Takeaways
- Sony’s recent Steam game launches have received mixed reviews due to mandatory PSN account sign-ins.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered faces backlash, with over 100 negative reviews within the first 24 hours on Steam.
- Despite the negative reviews, the game’s graphical overhaul has been a source of joy for players, with around 61% positive reviews on Steam.
When will they learn? This year, Sony has released multiple first-party games on Steam, most of which launched to ‘Mixed’ reviews due to the requirement of signing in with a PlayStation Network account. God of War: Ragnarok was the most recent game, but Concord (RIP), Ghost of Tsushima, and Helldivers 2 have all been hit with complaints due to said requirement.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Is The Latest PlayStation Game To Launch To ‘Mixed’ Steam Reviews
Within the first 24 hours of being live on Steam, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was hit with more than 100 negative reviews, most sharing their anger at PlayStation’s sign-in requirements, which, at this point, should come as no surprise.
Alongside the account requirement, players have cited infrequent crashing issues and the need to be connected to the internet, despite it being a single-player game, as reasons for their negative reviews.
One comment suggested, “Mandatory account linking has no place in single player game,” in their review, becoming one of the most liked assessments on the platform.
However, despite this, Steam says the game sits at around 61 percent positive reviews with the game’s graphical overhaul the main source of joy.
Despite dozens of negative reviews, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered’s launch is far from the most controversial PlayStation x Steam crossover this year. Ghost of Tsushima’s PC port was pulled from Steam in countries that don’t have PSN access, with the Valve-owned platform forced to issue refunds to those affected, and Helldivers 2’s launch was marred with Arrowhead and Sony flip-flopping on the requirements, leading to review-bombing and calls for refunds from the game’s then-thriving player base.
Horizon Zero Dawn has received the remaster treatment. The PS4 game’s visuals have been overhauled for the PS5, and ten hours of dialogue has been re-recorded to bring the first Horizon game up to the same standards as Forbidden West.
