Key Takeaways
- For a game that’s been re-released as many times as GTA 5, you’d think that it’d be best to play on PC.
- That isn’t the case, though, as there’s a bunch of content that’s still exclusive to the PS5 and Xbox Series versions.
- Rockstar has finally confirmed that it’s bringing those features over to PC at some point “in the new year”.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC will finally be receiving some of the expanded and enhanced features from the PS5 and Xbox Series release next year.
For a game that’s released multiple times over the past decade and come to pretty much every new console there’s been since the PS3 and Xbox 360, you’d be surprised to think that the best way to play GTA 5 isn’t on PC. Even as someone who mainly plays console, I’d agree that most games are simply better on PC, but that isn’t the case for Rockstar’s last GTA game.

GTA 6 Is Everything Wrong With The Industry
Games need to wind down in scope, not blow up to such unbelievable levels as to turn singleplayer games into ever-expanding live-service worlds.
Originally released on PC in 2015 with its own suite of unique features, the Windows version of GTA 5 was later eclipsed by the “Expanded and Enhanced” edition of the game that released in 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series. For a long time, fans have wondered when the current-gen version of the game would have its features brought over to PC, and they can finally wonder no more.
GTA 5 On PC Is Finally Getting Expanded And Enhanced PS5 Features
Earlier today, Rockstar Games shared its latest Community Update for GTA Online, which reveals a bunch of features coming to the game over the next few months, including an update in December. So far, so normal for GTA Online updates. Towards the end, though, there’s a surprising reveal that PC players have been waiting for.
While noting improvements that are coming to the game in the future, Rockstar announced that there are plans to “bring the much-requested PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series features of GTA Online to the PC platform” at some point in the new year. That means we can expect them to arrive in early 2025.
For those that are unaware, the Expanded and Enhanced version of GTA 5 (which is just what the PS5 and Xbox Series versions are called) added a bunch of content that has remained exclusive, such as Hao’s Special Works, Premium Test Ride, Career Build and Progress, and a bunch of different vehicles.
It’s also likely that the update will bring ray-tracing over from the PS5 and Xbox Series versions, although that hasn’t been confirmed just yet.
None of it is majorly putting the PS5 and Xbox Series versions of the game at an advantage, but it has been strange to see them not on the PC version of the game. That’s not going to be the case soon, though, as Rockstar has finally acknowledged the issue after nearly three years.
