Key Takeaways
- Over the last several years, multiple Wii U games have made their way onto the Nintendo Switch, including hidden gems and acclaimed hits.
- That said, there are a few titles still stuck on the Wii U, including Star Fox Zero.
- Taking to Twitter, Takaya Imamura, a legendary designer responsible for Star Fox and F-Zero, shared that he would love to see Zero on the Switch 2.
It’s no secret that the Wii U was nowhere near as popular as Nintendo would have liked it to be, especially coming off the iconic Wii. And so, with the advent of the Switch, Nintendo has made a concerted effort over the years to bring forward games that were once “stranded” on the Wii U to the Switch.
Over the Switch’s lifetime, the likes of Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and Pokken Tournament have all made their way to the hybrid handheld/home console. Recently, Nintendo made even bigger waves, when it announced that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition would be making its way to the console in March 2025.
Still, there are a few stragglers left behind on the Wii U, and with the Switch 2 rapidly approaching, one former Nintendo developer wants to see an iconic series get its due.

Star Fox On Switch 2 Would Be Amazing
Taking to Twitter, Takaya Imamura, a legendary luminary of Nintendo, who designed the likes of F-Zero, as well as Star Fox, mused about the possibility of Star Fox Zero making its way to Switch 2.
In his post, which has since been translated to English, Imamura shared that he would love to play Zero on Nintendo’s Switch successor. Adding, “I haven’t been involved much in the development of this title, so I’ve been dying to play it for the first time in a while. The music is great too!”
Zero originally launched on the Wii U in 2016. It marked the first mainline Star Fox installment in nearly a decade, and to this day, is the last true Star Fox game to be released. Unfortunately, the game wasn’t a smash hit, barely reaching 69 on Metacritic with a similar 7.3 user score.
That lack of favorability is likely why Zero hasn’t made its way past the depths of Wii U purgatory. Then again, both Twilight Princess and Wind Waker are critically acclaimed and still haven’t been ported, so no one really knows what the criteria are. Still, it would be great to see Star Fox back on a Nintendo console.
