First Things You Should Do In The Beta In Monster Hunter Wilds
PS5 fans were lucky enough to get into the beta of Monster Hunter Wilds well ahead of anyone else thanks to their linked PS+ accounts. The Early Access privilege was a huge win as it allowed them to get better acquainted with the game, but now everyone has access to it, or at least the supported beta platforms do.

8 Biggest Changes Coming in Monster Hunter Wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds is essentially the sequel to Monster Hunter World, but there are a lot of things changing between these two games.
Technically, the beta for Monster Hunter Wilds is short. There are only two quests to follow and then no more story bits will happen. Players can’t even make gear or have the Palicoes cook for them. That said, there’s still a lot to do in the beta and newbies may be a bit lost. So, here are some basic tips to peruse on where to go/what to do first.
6 Practice With The Weapons
Use The Beta’s Full Potential
The game will be linear for the first few minutes from cutscenes to a daring chase through the sands. Eventually, players will stop at a makeshift camp wherein Alma, an ally, will offer players fourteen weapons to choose from. For Monster Hunter fans, there will be no new weapons but diehards wouldn’t have it any other way.
At this camp, players can test out all fourteen weapons on a nearby barrel. Fighting a barrel is by no means good training for monster fights but players can take full advantage of the beta and test out all fourteen weapons on monsters once they get to the main camp later. They can get starters for every weapon in the game at no additional cost. To make things easier for solo players, a bow is recommended for that distance effect though.
5 Fiddle With Your Tent And Items
Make Healing Shortcuts
Once players make it back to the main camp upon finishing the first Hunt, Chatacabra, they should go into their tent. Most Monster Hunter games give players more of an established residence to explore like a hut. It’s unknown if their personal lodgings will be expanded in the full game, but either way, players should check out a few things in their tent in the beta. Players cannot craft weapons or armor in the beta but as established already, they can switch out weapons.

Every Monster Hunter Game, Ranked According To Metacritic
The Monster Hunter series has seen a lot of entries over the years. Here’s a look at all of them, ranked by Metacritic.
There are also several pieces of armor that they can check which do offer several different stats. For example, players should look for high electric resistance when they want to take on Rey Dau, a flying monster with electric-charged energy. Players should also rearrange items and set up their toolbar for easy access in the field like a quick way to heal, which is always an important first step to take in an action RPG.
4 Learn How To Cook
Boost Stats With Delicious Recipes
Another locked feature is cooking, which is always one of the best things about these games. The recipes in Monster Hunter always look so detectable especially when the Palicoes prepare a dish. Fear not though because players can still cook a few simple dishes themselves within their tent.
Besides creating something that looks good, it will also raise stats temporarily. Fans know that they should always prepare a meal before going after a big Hunt as it can sometimes make the difference between life and death. It should also be noted that players should go out and grab some raw meat from the random monsters around the map to get ingredients.
3 Explore The Map
Familiarity Will Make The Chase Easier
Speaking of the map, while there aren’t many story beats or side quests to tackle in the beta, the first area’s map is huge. It’s worth exploring to get to know the terrain. Finding shortcuts through hidden passageways can make it easier to track a monster down if it goes on the run.
Also, players should know that their seemingly inspired Chocobo-like steeds, Seikrets, will automatically go toward a mark if players simply hit the R1 button to guide them on their PS5 controllers. It’s similar to open-world games that have horses that follow paths. Either way, gathering ingredients for potions and dishes is one great reason players should explore the region to get the most out of the beta.
2 Hunt Down The Beta’s Four Main Monsters
It’ll Be A Struggle Alone
What monsters are going to be in the new Monster Hunter game? That’s what a lot of fans want to know who adore some classics like Rathalos or Paolumu. While the list hasn’t been confirmed yet, the beta only includes new monsters for players to fight. They will begin by taking down Chatacabra, a toad-like monster, and Doshaguma who looks like a cross between a bear and a dog.

Monster Hunter World has some amazing visuals, and these cosplayers did a great job of bringing the world to life.
Those are the only two main quests in the beta but players can also square off against the burrowing creature known as Balahara along with the lightning-infused flying fury of Rey Dau. Even though players can’t craft any weapons yet, progress is supposed to carry over into the main release. So, it’s worth tracking down all four monsters at least once for the sake of future materials.
1 Check Out Multiplayer
Answer The Call
The main point of a Monster Hunter game is to get together with three other friends to hunt monsters together in co-op sessions. Before players do that in the beta, they should approach the five other tasks by themselves. It will be good training for the final game and it will give players time to bond with their Palicoes.
After those suggested tasks are complete, players should use the remainder of the beta to check out multiplayer. Respond to SOS Flares or look on the assignment board to go after specific monsters. Rey Dau and Balahara are the two strongest monsters in the beta, so it might be a good idea to grind through these creatures on repeat with a party, again, for practice and for looting materials.
