Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Seemingly Uses AI Upscaling

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Seemingly Uses AI Upscaling

Key Takeaways

  • A new video comparing Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster to the original has highlighted what appears to be the use of AI upscaling.
  • Packaging on food and drink items has become squiggly and illegible, such as with the Coffee Creamer and Cookies.
  • The upscaling also appears to have been done for some of the signs and shops around Willamette too.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster appears to be using AI upscaling for the textures on some of the storefronts and shop items scattered around Willamette Mall.

Aside from all of the quality-of-life improvements that have been made to Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, the main thing that the semi-remake changes about the original is its art style, which has gone for a more photorealistic approach. Since Deluxe Remaster was first revealed, fans have had mixed reactions to the new direction and that seems like it’s about to turn more negative.

I Wish I Could Experience Dead Rising For The First Time Again

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is the best way to play Frank West’s adventure, but I’ll never forget my first time.

Yesterday, YouTuber Crowbcat released a video negatively comparing Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster to the original game, calling it “Demake till you drop”. Although most of the video is focused on the censorship and reduced difficulty of Deluxe Remaster that’s been talked about for a while, it does highlight something strange about Willamette’s new coat of paint.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Appears To Use AI Upscaling

An alleged example of AI upscaling in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.

Crowbcat’s video highlights a few examples of what is clearly the use of AI upscaling to remaster textures on items around the shops and mall. The most obvious cases can be seen when it comes to items that aren’t useable, such as the food on the shelves of Seon’s Food and Stuff, which will appear very morphed and out of place when taken a closer look at.

For example, the texture for the Coffee Creamer used to read “Chocolate Milk”, but it’s now just a random jumble of letters. The same can be said of a lot of the packaging on food and drinks across the mall, such as with cookies, frozen vegetables, and even objects that can’t be used like bottles of cleaner and toy boxes. It can even be obviously spotted on a poster of a cow in the Meat Processing Area.

The use of AI upscaling can also be seen on some signs across the mall, such as Robsaka Digital saying “New Releasrs” instead of new releases.

While the original Dead Rising had some pretty blurry textures for a lot of its food and packaging, they were still legible and added a lot of nice detail to Willamette. Just like with the GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition, it’s a shame that AI has been used instead of new textures, as it’s clear that a few corners were cut when it comes to Deluxe Remaster.
