Black Ops 6’s Hidden World at War Map is Likely More Than It Seems

Black Ops 6’s Hidden World at War Map is Likely More Than It Seems

After a franchise-topping opening weekend, it is clear that the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has a bright future ahead of it. The title has been largely praised for the ambitious changes in approach it has taken with its single-player narrative and core multiplayer, while also possessing a well-received focus on traditional mechanics for its Zombies experience.

With fans now being firmly up to speed with what Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has to offer at launch, many players are already looking forward to what content will come next throughout the game’s post-launch life. While new maps and modes are set to be added to standard multiplayer once Black Ops 6 kicks off its in-game seasons, fans have yet to experience how the game will alter Call of Duty‘s popular battle royale, Warzone. Players have already found a direct nod to maps from 2008’s World at War in the multiplayer of Black Ops 6, and this is a huge indicator of what fans can expect to see from the near future content of Warzone.

Some Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players would like to see a fan-favorite multiplayer map from Black Ops 2 get remastered in a future update.

Treyarch’s Map History Will Seemingly Play a Big Part in the Future of Warzone

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was praised for its fresh approach to its launch multiplayer maps prior to launch, with the game featuring 16 brand-new maps for players to enjoy. The high hopes for this approach were only amplified by the lack of originality in recent CoD titles like Modern Warfare 3, which itself possessed a launch map pool composed entirely of remade maps from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2.

Despite the originality behind them, the launch maps of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 still leave a lot to be desired due to their lack of variety and non-traditional layouts, and there are great indications that more classic maps from Treyarch-led games have a place in Black Ops 6‘s future. Of course, the iconic Black Ops map Nuketown was added to Black Ops 6 on November 1, and it seems as if this is only the tip of the iceberg for older maps getting another stint in the franchise’s spotlight.

For example, fans have already discovered that the Courtyard map from World at War exists around the outskirts of Black Ops 6‘s Skyline multiplayer map. Some players initially thought that this indicated that remakes of classic Black Ops and World at War maps would come to Black Ops 6‘s multiplayer throughout its post-launch seasons, and while this could certainly happen, it seems as if Treyarch has even bigger plans for these past experiences.

Warzone’s Future Will Potentially Take Inspiration From Blackout in its Map Design

The iteration of Courtyard outside of Skyline has been altered to match the aesthetic of Avalon, a fictional Mediterranean city-state that plays a role in the campaign of Black Ops 6. Skyline also takes place in Avalon, and some very high-profile leaks suggest that Avalon will be the setting of the next major core map for Call of Duty: Warzone. From what players have seen of the Avalon map through these leaks, it appears that a huge range of the most popular past Treyarch maps will make up the POIs of Avalon, with Courtyard being just one of many returning titans.

This is a similar approach to CoD‘s original foray into the battle royale genre, Blackout, which was an extremely popular element of 2018’s Black Ops 4. The map for Blackout was itself comprised of fan-favorite Black Ops maps brought together in a larger area, and it seems that Black Ops 6‘s influence on Warzone is set to emulate this same approach. While it is very possible that the remade past maps will still appear as standalone experiences in Black Ops 6‘s – or even Call of Duty 2025’s – core multiplayer, a lot of evidence points to the next Warzone map being a huge tribute to the best of Black Ops‘ history.
