Black Ops 6 players beg for bigger maps after “terrible” beta selection

The Black Ops 6 beta has been mostly well-received by players, but the early selection of maps on display have received plenty of criticism, with some claiming they’re “terrible” compared to previous CoDs.

After the Open Beta gave everyone the opportunity to try out Black Ops for the first time, millions of players have hopped in to test out Treyarch’s next multiplayer. Since then, players have been hotly debating features like the new Omnimovement and Sleeper Agent Field Upgrade, but the maps, in particular, have come under fire.

There are only five core maps available in the beta, meaning those who have been grinding all the way to Level 30 have become pretty well-acquainted with them. When CharlieIntel posted asking the community to rate the experience so far, fans quickly made their feelings known.

Many of the replies praised the mobility and gunplay, but the maps were a constant sticking point. Many players rated Black Ops 6 at just five or six out of 10, and mentioned that the “trash” maps were “holding it back.”

“The game is so good but honestly the maps are not it this year,” said popular streamer Metaphor, while another player added: “[These are] some of the worst maps I’ve ever played in a COD.”

The sentiment was much the same over on Reddit, as ‘Samz707‘ said that the maps shown in the beta “suck” and called out their smaller size. Scud is one of the largest released so far, while others like Babylon and Skyline are geared around close-quarters fights with only a few long sightlines.

“Treyarch apparently said they had no plans for ‘large’ maps, they need to start making plans,” said the OP. “As it stands [Gala] especially can become a clusterf**k of never getting to actually play as you die over and over for several lives as you spawn with enemies right next to you.”

The more compact design of the maps was a major complaint in the comments too, with another reply adding: “I want to see at least a few that are more medium-sized. I don’t think we need any massive maps, but I don’t want the entire 16-map playlist to be meat grinder maps.”

Of course, we’ve only had the opportunity to try a small sample of the maps on offer in Black Ops 6, and this number will grow with post-launch updates. However, it’s clear that fans aren’t impressed with the offerings so far.

This isn’t the only issue players have had with Black Ops 6 either, as others have called out the state of the spawns and asked for the return of post-match voice chat.
