Fallout London remains a miracle of modding. Essentially a completely new (albeit unofficial) game in the Bethesda RPG series, it’s proof that dedicated teams of hobbyist game developers can produce something that rivals triple-A. While Fallout 76 keeps getting better, Fallout 5 is still a long way off. Fortunately, it appears another fan game in the post-apocalyptic, Radroach-infested universe is still alive, and still in production. After a long period of silence, the makers of Fallout Cascadia have finally shared some fresh details.
Fallout Cascadia has similar ambitions to London, transporting the RPG to an entirely new city with a completely original story. Rather than the UK’s capital, Cascadia relocates Fallout to the Pacific Northwest, specifically downtown Seattle. Set around 40 years after the events of Fallout 4, it will supposedly contain new factions, characters, and a branching main quest, while still slotting in among the existing Fallout lore – the NCR from New Vegas and Fallout 2, for example, will return in Cascadia.
All the way back in July, the Fallout Cascadia team shared a brief look at one of the game’s environments. After that, the mod went quiet – until now. Two updates have been shared in the past seven days, one showcasing the crossbow weapon and another providing fans with a tease of the game’s soundtrack, as well as the base of one of Cascadia’s enemy factions.
“Under the guise of preserving local culture, Vault-Tec planned to test the limits of superstition and faith in Vault 56,” the Cascadia team explains. “Instead, a disaster in the Vault led to its residents becoming creatures of the night: the cannibalistic and vampiric Bloodbags.” You can take a look at the footage below.
In terms of a release date, Cascadia’s creators say it’s still uncertain. “This [a release date] is difficult to say as our team works on a volunteer basis. We are working towards a set internal date, but we have not yet announced anything formally to the public. Whenever we have a date set, it’ll be announced.”
