It comes as no surprise to learn that Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 is a success. For a while it seemed everyone and their chapter serfs was playing it, and it’s still holding its own in Steam in terms of player numbers over a month after launch. What is a surprise is just how incredibly popular this Ultramarine adventure is, with its developer now looking to the future as it celebrates a colossal milestone.
Over four and a half million players have hopped in to play Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 since it launched, which is frankly a number that wouldn’t seem out of place in the game’s over-the-top setting. To put that in context, that’s roughly the same amount of people who live in Panama, so imagine an entire nation deciding to play a grimdark action-adventure game and you might just grasp how stupidly large that figure is.
To commemorate that milestone, developer Saber Interactive is peeking into its Tzeentchian crystal ball to give players a few hints about what’s next for the title. The biggest upcoming addition is a brand new gun – the Neo-Volkite Pistol. Originally reintroduced into the setting by legendary Adeptus Mechanicus Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl, this small weapon packs a powerfully hot punch. It basically sends out a beam which incinerates anything it touches, which is just as well as Tyranids are particularly susceptible to being set on fire.
In early December players can also expect to get their hands on the Dark Angel Chapter Pack. This will let fans get geared up like Dark Angels and their successor chapters, bringing the most gothic and secretive boys into the game. This pack will additionally come with a new PvE map, Obelisk, set on Demerium, and a new warp-twisted enemy to face, the horned Tzaangor Enlightened.
