State of Decay 2 is one of the greatest zombie games, and now’s the time to buy
It’s a fantastic time for zombie games right now. Dying Light The Beast is on the way, Dead Island 2 just got that huge new horde mode, the Black Ops 6 Zombies campaign is chewing up the CoD, and now State of Decay 2, the superlative open-world undead fest from 2018, is available cheaper than ever. It’s a slightly bittersweet moment – developer Undead Labs recently confirmed that State of Decay 2’s October update would be its last – but if you’ve never tried the open-world survival shooter before, this is certainly the right time.
Right now, Undead Labs is working towards its next zombie game and the upcoming State of Decay 3 release date. On Tuesday October 22, it posted the 38th and final State of Decay 2 update, revamping the in-game inventory, the driving system, and dozens of combat and weapon mechanics. A fitting send off for one of the genre’s most beloved (to this day, with more than 46,000 user reviews, State of Decay 2 still boasts a ‘very positive’ rating on Steam), the open-world survival sim and its last big overhaul deserve to be experienced by more people.
Dying Light 2 is bringing back its beloved roguelike mode. Dead Island 2 has the horde. But if you’ve already slayed your way through the Techland and Dambuster sandboxes and want something fresh, State of Decay 2 is now available for the lowest price in its history. What sets it apart is the focus on ‘community.’
You’re not fighting the undead alone – you can recruit survivors who will help you build fortifications and recover supplies during scavenging runs. It becomes a strange kind of strategy game. Every survivor has different abilities, meaning no two communities and no two playthroughs are the same. The trick is in combining your co-zombie killers effectively.
State of Decay 2 is available for $7.49 / £6.24 until Monday November 4. If you want to get it for yourself, just head here.
Otherwise, try some of the other best open-world games, or maybe the best horror games to ever scare the wits out of PC players.
