Dragon Age The Veilguard beats Inquisition’s Steam record by 500% in one hour

The day many fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. Dragon Age The Veilguard has launched after nearly ten years without a new entry in the Dragon Age series. Though a name like this should draw some huge attention, there have been worries that it may end up underperforming. While it’s too early to say for sure just how much of an impact it’ll have, initial Steam player figures indicate that it’s heading in the right direction.

The best comparison point we can make for Dragon Age The Veilguard is to its immediate predecessor, Dragon Age Inquisition. This incredibly well regarded RPG wasn’t released on Steam initially so it’s not possible to check those numbers, but it has been sitting on the platform since 2020. In that time it’s attracted plenty of fans thanks to several considerably deep sales, so while you can’t compare exactly like-for-like, you can at least use it as an indication of how well this fourth Dragon Age game is doing.

The good news is – it’s smashing it. Just a single hour after launch has seen Dragon Age The Veilguard shoot past the player peak for Inquisition by a whopping 500%. What’s more, those figures are continuing to rise, and at the time of writing they’re currently 733% higher than anything Dragon Age Inquisition has seen.

Even for a game that has been on Steam since launch, the original Dragon Age Origins, Veilguard has managed to pull past it. Dragon Age Origins peaked at 7,089 players nearly 15 years ago, while just an hour after the Dragon Age The Veilguard release date it has managed to hit nearly 25,000.

Of course it’s not all good news and that’s to be expected when a game has expectations as high as this game. Some initial reviews point to technical issues, performance problems, and bugs causing woes when trying to play. Despite that, relatively few Steam reviews have trickled in – which is what you would expect, given this is a colossal game that few will be able to fully opine on just yet.
