Dragon Age: The Veilguard Review – Game Rant
@anast
Again, reviews are more like the reaffirming of confirmation bias, as someone pointed out. We’re all claiming things that are subjective. I’ve played sh*t so cringe with gameplay so great like Fire Emblem Engage, for example.
Do I consider that game sh*t or positive reviews as paid off? No… even though it can be rough to sit through the dialogue…
Yea, I’ve seen some examples of the cringe dialogue from Mr Matty Plays, but I’ve also heard there’s great characters and moments from the Kinda Funny Games panel. Again, from what I’ve personally seen, the game looks like it’s fun to play and visually spectacular. So, I absolutely can see where the positive reviews are coming from.
Let’s make no mistake here. The hatred towards this game comes from a clash of ideologies and insufferable culture wars. Do I think the option to have top scars, a trans weird-looking horn person, or “old gameplay” design to make the entirety of a game sh*t? Again, no.
There’s definitely psychological things in play here. People are so at each other’s throats that we’re seeing red the second some small element triggers us. When they introduced gay relationships in Mass Effect or Dragon’s Age I never once saw this animosity towards a game and let’s be real, those games have some “old gameplay” and rough edges to them even for their time.
I personally, can’t say whether this game is a 9 or 5 since I haven’t played it. All I can say is I don’t find things people are up in arms over to be a deal breaker and I’m actually looking forward to playing the game on release and I find it interesting that people were wanting this to fail so bad now they have to run to, the reviews are paid off.
You have your perspective and I have mine. That’s it, but don’t pretend that when reviews align with your preconception of a game that you make the argument that it’s paid off like you do when they don’t. If reviews were all paid off how do you explain Unknown9 Awakening’s scores? Think about it.
