Joseph Pascoulis

Bandai Namco’s Tekken 8 is the latest installment for the iconic 3D fighting franchise. The game has become a staple in the fighting game genre since its first release in 1994, but could Tekken 8 be the final game?

Tekken is Bandai Namco‘s prized 3D fighting game with a massive loyal and dedicated fanbase, some of which have been playing the game for decades.

Tekken 8 comes 30 years after the first installment, which launched in September 1994. With the landscape of the gaming industry evolving, many are wondering what will happen to franchises such as Tekken, and whether or not they will buy into the live-service model.

Some may also be wondering whether the game is coming to an end due to its story, which could put an end to the Mishima family‘s long-lasting saga.

So, for those wondering if Tekken 8 will be the last Tekken, here’s everything we know.

Will Tekken 8 be the last Tekken?

Although nothing has been confirmed by Bandai Namco themselves, it’s safe to say that Tekken 8 will certainly not be the last game for the franchise.

Tekken has grown massively with its previous release, Tekken 7, and we expect a similar surge during Tekken 8‘s lifespan. With all this momentum, Bandai Namco will likely continue releasing Tekken games in the future.

That said, the time between releases has been varied, and Tekken 8 comes nine years after the release of Tekken 7. So, fans could be waiting a very long time for the next Tekken title.

Tekken 8 is not going to be a live service game, but it will receive updates and DLC. So, with that said, it’s likely more Tekken titles will be released in the future, rather than one being updated.

Will Tekken 8 end the Mishima story?

Tekken 8’s story is set to bring some massive developments, with Jin and Kazuya finally facing off as “fist meets fate.” While Heihachi seemingly died at the end of Tekken 7, Reina Mishima, his illegitimate daughter, makes her debut to spice up the ongoing Mishima storyline. Jin’s mother, Jun Kazama has also returned, so there are plenty of ways to keep the Mishima story going.

That said, if the Mishima story does somehow come to an end, so long as the game performs well, we can pretty much guarantee that Tekken will return with a new storyline.
