Twitch bans ‘implied nudity’ in its latest update on attire policy

Twitch has once again updated its Community Guidelines to address concerns related to ‘implied nudity’ during streams and now bans streamers to imply or suggest that they are fully or partially nude in its latest update on attire policy.

No more partial nudity or its amplification, Twitch issues statement

This move comes in response to a trend where some streamers use censor bars or positioning to create the illusion of nudity, viewer is led to believe that the streamer is fully or partially nude. So, starting immediately, streamers are prohibited from being fully or partially nude, and the guidelines explicitly state that implied nudity is not allowed.

The official statement read: “We don’t permit streamers to be fully or partially nude, including exposing genitals or buttocks. Nor do we permit streamers to imply or suggest that they are fully or partially nude, including, but not limited to, covering breasts or genitals with objects or censor bars. We do not permit the visible outline of genitals, even when covered. Broadcasting nude or partially nude minors is always prohibited, regardless of context.”

Along with this, for better user experience, Twitch is actively working on features such as the ability to blur thumbnails for content labeled with Sexual Themes and user settings to filter content based on preferences, while instructing streamers to appropriately categorize their content to improve content clarity.

This follows Twitch’s update in December, which permitted ‘artistic nudity’ as long as it was appropriately labeled, some streamers reportedly violated the new policy. Community concerns emerged, prompting Twitch to reconsider. As a result, the platform announced a rollback of the changes related to artistic nudity and now is looking to tighten regulations even further.
